We have a system whereby if the parent is not collecting a child they let us know at drop off or phone during the session who is collecting. If it is another parent or a person on their collection list we let them go but if it is a person who is not known to us (even if on their collection list) we need a password. All straight forward so far BUT what do we do when a parent turns up saying they are taking another child as they have a play date arranged but we haven't been told. We try to phone mum and dad on all their phone numbers with no answer. Do you let the child go or should you start going to the other people on the child's list who have permission to collect t…

Hi all, after the incident before half term at my setting, OFSTED served a 'welfare requirements notice' and they came for an unannounced visit today, all went well, she was really nice and happy with everything we have put in place etc..... It's our policy for visitors to put their phones into a box out of reach, she gave in her personal phone but said she needed to keep her work one with her as she might need to take photos.....I didn't really feel comfortable about this and was thinking of emailing ofsted to get confirmation but as the visit went so well I don't want to cause an issue - if that makes sense?!?! When we have been inspected before they have given their…

Hi All, I really don't understand some parents not wanting their child to go out in the cold or rain! A parent collected her child today, and is not happy that he was playing outside in the rain. (He had wellies and his coat on). However she requested that he stays in when its raining. We do not have a system of free flow play for our outdoor area, so all the children go out at set times. Plus we have not got enough staffing to supervise that child indoors. I explained to her that she is welcome to read our outdoor play policy and we state that child go out in all weather conditions. She then started moaning about how her child will catch a cold and she will the…

Ok here goes, our setting encourages healthy eating and packed lunch , we are finding a couple of children who continually have chocolate spread or jam as their sandwich option. I personally don't agree this is a savoury Am I too old fashioned ? Yes one of the serial offenders does not have the best of eating habits - mum struggles with her eating , have advised and supported ideas to encourage . These children do eat fruit and other savoury options at snack when at preschool Is jam and choc spread a treat ? Thinking of putting a ban on these fillings Am I asking for trouble - yes but also feel we should stay true to our ethos Is there evide…

This morning hasn't started very well..... We've had a situation today where - to cut a long story short - a child managed to follow their parent (unseen by staff) out of the building and almost to the road! Parent brought the child back and almost made a joke of it ("are you missing someone") parent happily left child again. I spoke to member of staff who was manning the door who said parents were talking to her and she didn't see the child leave. I have since called Parents apologising profusely, explaining that for the first time ever our system let us down, explained the complaints process and told them they were well within their rights to complain. At the momen…

Just reviewed our Complaints policy but our actual form dates back to the introduction of EYFS in 2008, it was from the Ofsted website at the time but I can't actually find it on there now! Does anyone know if it has been updated at all?
