Morning all, Just wondering if others could share their experiences with this topic. Currently, we allow children to bring their own water bottles to pre-school during the session. However, despite emphasising to parents that this should be WATER in the bottle, we have noticed more and more children attending with milkshakes, juice and even on occasions fizzy drinks My staff team are in agreement that this issue needs to be tackled and I am thinking of sending out in the newsletter than from after half term we will no longer have bottles brought in from home but wasn't sure if I could enforce this. We have a fresh drinking water cooler in the room and always offer milk…

We've always used socket covers, I remember vaguely hearing about the suggestion of not using them a few years ago but nothing since however a staff member has just been on a first aid course where the discussion about plug sockets came up and the tutor said they should never be used. Since then I've had a play about on google and it seems all the info is not to use them in nurseries...... So....... do you or do you not use plug socket covers in your settings?? If you don't have there been any accidents etc? what has the reaction of parents been like if they have noticed no covers? has anyone had comments from ofsted about whether they should/should not be used?

Hi , we're a new pre school and I was wondering if anybody would be willing to share a staff complaint template policy? Also I was wondering obviously when staff join they are put on a probationary period , in this period do we (or the staff member ) have to give a certain period of notice? I was just wondering how it would work if you took a staff member on a trial period but it'd be tricky with ratio's if one do they just decided they didn't like their job! Any advice would be great fully received!!

I was told recently that the new legislation regarding labelling allergens wasn't really going to be relevant to us as a nursery. I have just read on the pacey website however that we do need to be doing things!? Anyone have any extra experience or knowledge of this they can share? Thanks

has anyone got a risk assessment i can use as a starting point to tweak, to save me starting from scratch? issues he has are: grabbing children round neck flinging himself on the floor in temper lashing out at staff/children when having temper tantrum trying to get out of class/school climbing on furniture - no sense of danger swiping toys off surfaces/tables - enjoys the noise? sensation? not sure why he does it ... thanks so much if anyone has anything suitable x

I have updated nearly all of our policies as they were very outdated but now I need all the staff to read them. I have left a folder on the staff room table for staff to read but over the last two weeks very few have been read. I know its hard for staff to get time to read them in the day. How do others manage this? I was thinking of doing something like policy of the fortnight and then do a little quiz at the team meeting to see if they had read and understood.

Hi everyone I was at a committee meeting last night and concern was raised over a particular parent who was verbally abusive to another parent outside Pre-school. Pre-school children were not present as it was picking up time, however, some parents were waiting with younger siblings. It was agreed we would have a 'Code of Conduct' policy stating if parents are verbally abusive to staff or parents their child's place will be suspended. I did raise concerns over whether we could exclude (worries of not seeming to be an inclusive practice jumped to mind) but the committee were adamant this could not go on. The parent receiving the abuse has now withdrawn her child fro…

I was just reading 'Infection Control' by Public Health England that Wildflowers kindly posted and regarding nappies it states: Always segregate domestic and clinical waste, in accordance with local policy. Used nappies/pads, gloves, aprons and soiled dressings should be stored in correct clinical waste bags in foot-operated bins. All clinical waste must be removed by a registered waste contractor. All clinical waste bags should be less than two-thirds full and stored in a dedicated, secure area while awaiting collection. We are in a Village Hall and we put the nappies in a sealed bag into the skip and it is emptied by the council. Is a registered waste contractor a fa…
