Hello I just want to see if anyone has a policy about allergens and food management in their setting. We have a couple of children with some severe allergies, no nuts but we do not have nuts on the premises. Thanks

Help! (I'm putting this in here rather than committee members as it seems to fit more) We review our playgroup policies regularly on a rolling programme and every time I question the policy statement as there are colour co-ordinated boxes with the heading' EYFS Themes and Commitments' with various numbers 1.2, 2.1 etc. I ask why they are there and what they refer to and the stock answer seems to be "Well, they've always been there" (yes, I know!) So, I've taken it on myself to find out to what these numbers refer and I thought they might be cross referenced with our policies, which they aren't. A bit of Googling has found the Themes and Commitments poster from 2013 an…

Incident reporting

I am just writing an operational guide for staff handbook and was adding a bit about writing up incidents - my issue is, we have always written behavioural issues in this booklet, but i've just checked our PSLA policies and it says: The incident book is not for recording issues of concern involving a child. This is recorded in the child's own file. Should we be doing this? Incidents are always shared with parents in a considerate manner anyway. Thanks

Hi all. I am new to this forum so forgive me if this turns up in the wrong place! I have recently attained my EYT status and I am enjoying all the support received through reading your posts :1b and i was wondering if you could all help! I need help regarding policies. We have at our setting a lot of policies and although the manager has worked very hard on devising and reviewing them when necessary, i feel that there are are many that could be linked together. The manager feels they are all vital and whilst I understand that it is hard to know what is required (EYFS does not stipulate what policies need to be in place) I was wondering what the general consensus was.…

Hi I am in the process of updating staff job descriptions and after recently attending some training OFSTED see the role of nursery nurse as more of a teacher as they are ensuring the children have all the teaching and learning opportunities whilst attending the settings and are teaching the children. I was wondering if you would still call them a nursery nurse or early years practitioner or even early years educator. Thanks

Visitors are not allowed to use their mobile phone whilst in the setting, but I would feel awkward about asking a prospective parent not to take a call from e.g. the child minder who is looking after the child.

Hi All and hope you all had a lovely Summer break for those of you that got one, So first day back and one of our children manages to break their arm!! Good start to the new term. Anyway, I have reported this to OFSTED and they have said I need to submit a report and they will log this on the system. However, does anyone know if I need to report this to HSE or not? I am looking at guidance but there is little specifically for Early Years provision. Any help would be greatly appreciated TIA
