We are a setting that just takes three year olds need advice before we take two year olds as well .We only have one room and nearly all the toys state 3+.We will risk ass and so forth but where do we stand if something did happen as toys state for three year olds use only.Other setting say they are careful but there is always that chance, where does a setting stand legally also surly ones insurances needs to know you have two year olds with three year olds toys, also parents will say that's fine until something happens.Any advice and please from the legal side I know how to risk ass and do other things to keep children safe but also am a realist.

I am new to the job of SENCO. My deputy was our SENCO and has now retired so it has fallen into my lap. I am booked on a two day training course in December and am currently trying to get up to speed pretty darn quick!! I am about to start updating our policy and was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their updated policies to help me out. Obviously I know that to a certain extent they are personal to our own settings but would be so grateful for a helping hand. :1b

As our preschool expands and we are taking more 2 year olds, we are finding that the number of nappies we are changing is increasing. We have heard that after a certain number, we have to arrange for them to be incinerated. Does anyone know if this is an urban myth and what do others do?

We've just had a meeting with our improvement advisor and have been told we need to add a bit to our safeguarding policy about duty of care outside of operational hours. Does anyone have this in their policy? And if so would you be willing to share it? I'm having a mind blank (can tell this is going to be a long week!!) Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Does anyone have a clause in their policies to cover non payment of fees? We usually do not have a problem with this but have had on-going problems with one particular family for the last year. I should point out that this is not a family in genuine financial need but a family which chooses not to pay and to prioritise different things instead! We have spent a lot of time working with this family and have tried all sorts of different ideas to make things easier for them. They have made some payments, but we have had to resort to stopping the child from attending in order to prevent the bill from escalating. Mum has been extremely difficult and rude. They current…
