Hi Just updating a few documents as you do on a rainy Bank Holiday and I was wondering if any of you keep a simple log sheet of behaviour? We have a long form but it is really in depth detailing the behaviour, actions taken etc. etc. but I don't use it for everything and tend to fill it in if behaviour is really bad (i.e. many occurrences through the session) as if we recorded every single thing that transpires each day we could end up doing nothing else other than paperwork by the time you include accidents/incidents/nappy logs etc. I'm looking for something simple, just so it's recorded. Thanks.

Nut Policy

We use PSLA for our standard policies and a nut one is not included. (think I may need to reword the title lol) The supervisor thinks it is a good idea we have one so I have started to write one up, but I was just wondering if anyone has also added this policy. At present we do not have any children that are allergic to nuts but is it now normal practice to have one? Any help/advice would be great!

Hi all We have been very lucky in that the school PE budget has paid for our new wooden climbing frame. However I have been trying to write the risk assessment and have hit a few issues and wondered if anyone had any ideas. It was suggested that I could find a Risk assessment on line and use that - nothing has come of my hours searching then It was suggested by another that we did not need to use matts with PE equipment anymore. am confused now, in the A-Z book they show the climbing frame with mats and sell them seperately, we did not buy these as we still have the old ones from our previous frame. Thanks

hi We are currently working with the Children's Centre to support a family with a child in our setting. The Children's centre are very concerned about the whole family and there is a multi agency meeting planned. They have been in regular contact with us and asked us to let them know if we had any concerns at all about the children or parents. Yesterday we had a concern and contacted the CS worker ( the usual one was on leave). She made an unannounced visit, telling Mum we had been in touch and why. Mum was less than happy when she arrived ( 20 mins late due to the visit!). Is it normal to tell a parent who rang and why? I feel that this has probably irreparably damaged …

Medication! 1 2

Hi I'd like to ask what your policies are for the giving of medicines to children. We stipulate that we only give prescribed medicine to any child once a medication form is filled in by the parent. However today I was asked to give Calpol to a child at lunchtime as he was staying all day and had needed some before arriving for a headache. So I quoted our policy and the disgruntled parent then asked another parent who collects after lunch to give the medicine to her child and she agreed and they went in to the main room together. Turns out that the parent had given one of my staff the Calpol to keep in the office and to pass to the other parent after lunch for her to giv…

I have been following the topic "Bullying/Harassment of staff by parents" topic with interest as I was subject to this last year In doing so, I am fascinated to read that some of you have included policies on withdrawing children for disruptive behaviour or displaying inappropriate behaviour. I was always under the assumption we couldn't do this. It seems this is a controversial area, but what are the rules? I have looked through the pertinent documents and I can't find anything to say we can't have a policy like this in place. What I can find, is documentation requiring us to be inclusive regarding disability, SEN, race, gender etc., which I am sure (hope!) we all a…

Hi All, We are currently going through a particularly vile time with two parents in particular. - it has become so bad I am currently signed off sick due to stress. I cant go into it too much at the moment but I just wondered does any one have a policy/procedure/clause in their contracts which protects staff from bullying/intimidation from parents? If you do - would you be willing to share? Basically I need something that say this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated and can result in removal of a childs place, to protect us all in the future. Unfortunately my head is really not in policy writing mode at the moment. Thanks in advance FF

Just reading Nursery World article and read this "From this September, Ofsted for the first time is finding out what qualifications staff in nurseries have and then we're going to be looking at the outcomes they achieve and I think that's the way we should be doing it.'" What does this relate too?
