I have had a little girl join my Nursery class yesterday, who had previously been with a childminder until last week. I rang her today and asked if she could send over her Learning Journey. The childminder said that she didn't have one, as she'd only been with her for a term. Maybe I have the wrong idea here, but I thought it was a legal requirement to keep some form of record of the children's learning, even if it's not specifically a 'learning journey?' Plus, a term is not exactly a short amount of time! Can someone help me out here please?

Can anyone help me with a risk assessment for epilepsy?

Can anyone help me with a risk assessment for epilepsy? I would like to see how it is laid out and what information should go on it. My area advisor has asked that the child's Health Visitor should come in and help, but they are saying they do not do this. they also said that the parent should be involved too. I have asked the mum to walk through the nursery with me, to see if anything is a hazard and she has said that everything is a hazard and does not want her child to be treated any differently as she only has seizures early in the morning, which will be before nursery time. I have put in place a home/nursery daily diary, but mum said she is reluctant to let me k…

Hi All Looking for a little advice, if you do NOT have an up to date First Aid qualification and a child sitting near you was hit on the head with a heavy object causing a bump to their head would you be qualified to fill in an accident form or indeed an incident form for the other child? A member of staff is insisting because they do not have an up to date (within last 3 years) paediatric first aid qualification they can not fill in an accident form. Has any one else come across this and what are your thoughts please? Debster

Can anyone help to clarify my issue... I work in a preschool always at one member of staff above ratio, at present 4 staff most sessions We run a free flow session between indoors/outdoors so generally 2 staff in each area unless children move to throw ratios out then we stand between areas so can observe both whilst other staff are in the area. My issue is if a child needs changing of clothes, nappy, help in the toilet area our EY advisor tells me 2 members of staff must do this together but we cannot be out of ratio in the room or outside.... I can't split myself in two! She informed me the dreaded O people will shut us down if we allow ratios to drop or allow…

Hello everyone! I just joined this forum and found it very helpful, so I hope someone might shed a light to my dilemma. I keep finding policies everywhere and I find it confusing to know what policies to put in induction folder for staff and what policies in parent's pack. Oh..and I suppose all of them to keep in the office. Is there any list of policies I can follow? Any help/advice would be highly appreciated! Thank you!

hi all, I have been wondering about this for a long time and would like to know what you all think! firstly a little background information; I am a phase leader for nursery and reception in a large primary school and this term we are admitting 8 raising threes in one of our nursery classes. We have two teachers and two EYPS in the room with 32 3 -4 year olds as well as the 8 raising threes. (so making 40 chn in all) I am in the process of employing another adult (TA) to cover the ratios, however my line manger is refusing to see that we need another adult as she says the ratios are fine! I was really just trying to find out any ideas of other settings that have two …

Intimate Care forms for parents

Hi all I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice in terms of intimate care. Does anyone use a slip they send home to parents if their child has been changed due to a toileting accident/supported in toileting/changed following wet/messy play? We have an intimate care policy and consent form which is signed for every child when they commence at the setting and also a daily log which records who changed the child, why, date and time and communication with the parent. However, a concise slip would strengthen the communication link and I was wondering if anyone used something similar? Kind regards, J

Sorry to ask but ....my new setting disposes children's soiled nappies in their big-skip-type wheelie bin (small village hall setting): The last three nurseries I've worked in have always sent soiled nappies home with parents because we never had proper disposable bins - have things changed? My staff looked at me like I was a loony !
