Hi! Just wondered how other settings raise concerns about SEN? I am in a school nursery and we speak to the SENCo and give her copies of IEPs but always feel we should be doing more. Personally, as a parent of children with SEN I feel it's vital to get it right early on, but with Nursery to Y6 to cover, we're not always top of the list. Also as our lunch doesn't coincide with the rest of the staff we get less opportunity to off load our concerns!! I wondered if anyone else writes down concerns? At least that way there is evidence that you have ( and we are!!) doing our best! Any suggestions most welcome!

sun protection policy

Hi everyone, we have a sun protection policy stating that between the hottest times of the day (11-3) we do not take children out. It also states that children will not be allowed outside without suncream. One parent has requested that their child be taken out during the hottest time, and does not have and suncream due to them needing more vitamin D. Obviously this is against our policy which has been explained to them, but they are insisting we follow their wishes. What are everyones views? Anyone had similar experiences/ got any suggestions as how we could resolve this? Thanks

Indoor sand pits

We have just built an indoor sand pit roughly 4m X 3m, with the sand 25cm in depth. Staff are concerned that the dust from the sand may cause future health problems because it is more enclosed than outside. Does anyone have any health & safety guidance regarding indoor sand pits, risk assessments etc. I have contacted our LA H&S team, who cannot find any information specifically for indoor sandpits, and they can find no research to indicate possible silicosis Any help would be appreciated as the children absolutely love it and I'm loathed to get rid of it. Thank you Westfield

Does anyone have the use of steroids in their medication policy? A child may be prescribed steroids for a few days to fight off a pending asthma attack. Should the child be excluded as for the first 48 hrs of anti biotics? What are your views? Do you have a policy that accounts for this?
