I'm after advice / opinions One of our children has been diagnosed with a medical condition which may (and it is a small may) result in a medical crisis needing the administration of cortisone via an intramuscular injection. The injection is not like a epipen - it is a 'proper' needle and syringe situation. My questions are: would nursery staff be allowed to give this injection (assuming that we can get training)? Its a new one on me ... I want to be able to include the child but don't want a situation where we can't look after them appropriately. I am meeting the family tomorrow to discuss this - I just wanted to know where we stood Thanks in anticipation…

I am a 17 year old student studying child care, one of my assignments is to relate incidents to policies and what went wrong. The policies/procedures/legislation's I have to cover are: - Child collection policy - Food safety act (personal hygiene or kitchen hygiene) - Data protection act - RIDDOR - Confidentiality legislation - Adult to child ratio - Risk assessments - Hygiene control procedures - Emergency procedures (fire, missing child, abduction, illness) For all of these I need a incident where the policy wasn't being followed correctly and why. I have covered Adult to child ratio with the Teddy Bear's Nursery in which a staff member was left alone wit…

I belong to a parenting forum and am quite cross about a current thread and just need to rant - sorry! A mum has asked for advice as her barely 3 year old is not yet toilet trained. She is due to start nursery after Easter and she says she has 2 weeks to get her trained as they will not accept her until she is. The first response to this is for her to lie to the nursery and tell them she is and then to act concerned by her apparent regression when she 'starts' to wet herself there  There is some advice thrown in but lots of people have agreed that she should just lie. Opening myself to abuse (probably ) I have asked her not to lie and asked how she would fe…

Hi my fantastic FSF colleagues Okay my query is how do others store their art, obs, wow moments on a daily/weekly basis, ready to transfer to journals. My staff presently put them all into a large storage box, but with 66 children and 10 staff in the setting, you can imagine this is now a mammoth task when collating into individual children and their own keyperson boxes. Have thought of a large medical type trolley with hanging manilla files for paintings, pictures, photos etc. Just want to make it as easy peasy as possible. So any wonderful ideas to help with this will be gratefully received. Many thanks in advance Bridger

Hi Guys, Like many, I am having trouble setting a policy for sick pay that is fair. Many of you have said that you pay staff for 5 days per year (does this not set a trend that staff we take 5 days regardless if they are sick or not?) If staff are off for 4 consetitive days I claim SSP, however I find lots of staff take the odd day (or 2) here and there and by the end of the year most staff (I have 13 in total) have racked up on average 10 sick days each - all fully paid. Any good suggestions/policies would be great. Many thanks.

Hello. I am asking to see if any of you lovely people can help. I am updating my policy re. illness etc and am comparing my policy which was orig from NDNA with HPA guidance on infection control in school & other childcare settings. There is quite a lot of differing guidance and was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their policy with current exclusion periods etc.with me - we are a nursery setting. Thank you.
