What is your exclusion period for chicken pox, and how did you arrive at that timeframe? Think daughters school is wrong, but need to check what is the "norm" first. Mine is at least 6 days and scabs all crusted over and child feeling well enough.

I am currently drafting a Welcome letter for children and parents joining our pre school in September to go in a welcome pack. I wondered what other pre schools include in their welcome packs and letters.

Safeguarding Paperwork

Two of my staff recently went on a child protection workshop and have come back very alert to the slightest sign of anything untoward. My problem is where to record these tiny incidents so that if anything ever did develop we would have a record. I don't feel the child's file is the right place as I believe the parent has the right to see the child's file under the data protection act. However it's not enough to merit an incident report, just 2 separate comments from different children about something which had occurred at home. What do others do?

I phoned the safeguarding board about a child at our pre-school after I was passed some information about his carers. I was told I would receive a phonecall back within 24 hours, they didn't. Then they phoned yesterday while I was out at a funeral and passed a message to my staff that it was up to me to talk to the parents about it. I just don't feel comfortable approaching these carers, there are drug taking issues and to be honest I am a little worried for my own safety! Is it really up to me to speak to them? The child has only been with us this half term, he's receiving 2 year old funding and has now missed 4 consecutive sessions so he is at risk of losing the pla…

This is a much-photocopied sheet and I wonder if anyone out there has a nice clean copy, or can tell me where to find one. I've looked on the National Strategies site but can't find it there (although I was assured it would be there)

Hi. As a full day care setting we rarely have volunteers or parent helpers as our families work. However, we are just starting to set up an 'allotment' and are keen to get some local helpers in to share their expertise (I am sure there are lots of grandparents around the village who would love to help out for an hour a week!) I wasn't going to CRB them. They are obviously never going to be alone with children, and we have a strict mobile phone and photo policy so what would you do? I was going to ring OFSTED for advice as well, but wondered what the thoughts were on here. Thanks!
