Hi all - am trying to save myself a bit of time over by the weekend by picking your brains! We don't appear to have a looked after children policy and we need one! Can anyone suggest things I may need to include in it: I prob need to put about our duty of care to promote academic acheivment of children in care (think this is statutory duty of the LA to acknowledge and readress the balance that the children in care, statistically, do less well than children not in the care system), about working with carers/ social worker/ family where appropriate etc,/ ensuring you represent and value the childs individual circumstnces. and contribute where required to the child's car…

Hi, we have a new member of staff covering maternity leave and I just wondered which policies she has to have a copy of and which ones we can just say they're in the folder if you need them. Cheers for your help x

hi all just asking for a bit of advice r.e. wording recording an observation that isn't considered an immediate concern but still needs to be recorded as we are aware as staff that every little piece of the puzzle is recorded. We currently have quite heavy disclosure forms for recording a concern formally after completely re-doing the policy last year but feel that these are slightly too formal for observations that don't cause immediate concern, for example when a child comes into pre-school dirty/smelly- along those lines if you understand where I'm coming from. Recently attended a basic awareness course and the course leader recommended recording them in an incident bo…

I would like to know if I have to report a greenstick fracture to Ofsted. Child fell yesterday and landed on one hand/arm (as we all do to break fall). Lots of TLC and an ice pack applied, child could move fingers but was very upset so we called parents straight away. They headed for A&E as a precaution and xray shows greenstick fracture, (they are not stressed about it "one of those things" and my own son did the same at school many years ago and I don't remember any reports having to be made) Child is in again today with plaster and sling but otherwise none the worst for wear. So what I need to know is if this has to be reported, hospital say that this is ve…

Happy Half Term Holidays Everyone Our policies and procedures are now soo big, copying them and passing them to all new parents would be so expensive, time comsuming and a huge waste in paper. I have tried copying them onto CD Rom, but committee dont seem that interested in that idea! So I would like to know what you think should be included in a small welcome pack and should the whole policy be put into it or just the main points with a note stating 'please see our main policies for more information' or if you would like a copy of the whole policie document please see a member of the team'. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I just wanted to check with you knowledgeable people whether I am correct in advising parents that staff do not wipe the bottoms of toilet trained children. It is a policy we have always had but as parents are questioning me I have started to doubt myself. Some reassurance or contradiction if I am wrong would be gratefully received.

Toys From Home

Does anyone have a policy re: allowing children to bring their own toys to nursery? I have not discouraged this but recently it has become a problem with so many children bringing their favourite (and usually not the most suitable) toys into nursery. I have had many tears and broken toys and am not sure about the best approach. What do others do?
