Against Praise?
by Guest TinklePrincess- 9 replies

Hi everyone! I was speaking to the manager of a day nursery where I'm on my ECSD-EYPS placement and suggested that, because the staff arent forthcoming with sharing with the parents the little things that he children have done (ie, they have day diaries but it's just for what they've eaten, their nappies etc, not for things like "Johhny went to the toilet all by himself today") so I came up with the idea of cutting out lots of big gold and silver stars (which took me ages and cost loads for the card!) and hanging one on a child's coat peg when they make a great acheivement, in order to continue the praise at home and bring positive reinforcement from the parent, who w…

What Is The Difference
by Guest- 5 replies

Can any body explain what the difference is between a child protection policy and a safeguarding policy? I've been told that we have to have both but I'm struggling to come up with a safeguarding policy that isn't just a repeat of the child protection. Anyone got a sample please?

We have a child who has an egg allergy joining us after Easter. I rang the health clinic to ask about training staff to use an epipen and was told they can't do it anymore as the funding isn't there now! What on earth am I going to do? I said to the HV that I couldn't exclude a child for having an allergy but I needed training otherwise the insurance wouldn't be valid. She suggested I buy a DVD from allergy awareness campaign. I've sourced a training epipen - do you think that'll be enough?????

Toilet Training

Hi all, I read with interest many of the issues raised on this forum, and have had a problem or two solved, so here I am with a question, that probably has no definitive answer. So... Child A has a problem about knowing when they need the toilet, a wee and pooh, parents are convinced there is a medical issue, hospital say not. However I have to clean my carpets two to three times a week, and clean chairs, mats etc. So really what I am asking is there an age or an amount of wees etc on the carpet that is acceptable? The child doen't seem to care about it, and the other children have said things like 'theres a wet patch, oh thats child A.' Thank you

I wonder if any of you lovely people could help, I am looking for a form (blank) that could be used to risk assess everything children come into contact with in a setting on a daily basis (been told by ofsted we need to do this), I have looked around on the site and found one a few weeks ago and for the life of me can not find it again. Has anyone got one they would be willing to share. Thank you sooo much in advance.

Risk Assessments
by Guest- 5 replies

Hi there I am a newly registered Childminder and am feeling very overwhelmed by all the paperwork that comes with starting up!!! One thing I have found difficult is risk assessments, mainly because the sheet we are given to follow is pretty rubbish. Can anyone give me any ideas on how else to set out a risk assessment for each of the rooms in my house plus garden and outings! I sort of have an idea but am not very good at wording stuff. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

'no Cuddles' Myth
by Guest- 20 replies

Hi all, This came up on another thread, i.e. the idea that you should never touch or cuddle children if they are upset, and I wanted to dispel this myth as I think it is really harmful and a complete over reaction to a couple of shocking incidents. It can be hard to find the actual legal guidance, so I will post the links below. If you go to page 25 on the document here, and see point 82, you will see the current governent advice, and also a link to another document which gives more detail about your legal situation. http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/_doc/14800/43...se_of_force.pdf Hope this helps someone and that no one would ever think twice about hugging…
