Hi does anyone know if the entitlement to a (unpaid) 20 minute rest break in the day applies if a worker works say 9 till 3 (exactly 6 hrs) ...in which case if you have to add in a break they'd be working less than 6 hrs?? ..(or do you contract them for 6 hrs but their working day is 6 hrs 20 minutes) or is it anything above 6 hrs - in which case if working 9 to 3 you get no break at all? Also does the same apply to apprentices? Been looking at the govt sites but dont seem to really answer my question. Just going round in circles - probably over thinking it!

Smoking Policy

Does anybody know where in the statutory framework (other than page 27) that it says anything about smoking? I was sure that it said something about members of staff should try to minimise the effects of their smoking by not 'smelling' of smoke ie clean hands, change clothing as appropriate but I can not find it anywhere. Can anybody shed some light on this please.

We have the PLA Incident Book and it doesn't have a space for a parent to sign when you have told them their child has 'created' an incident. Question: Is this right, that the parent doesn't sign? Our Incident book is that old that it may have changed, and in which case I need to update ours!

Corporate/ House Style Guides

I have been asked to compile a house style guide for the organistaion I work for. I wondered if anyone had one that I could peruse to get some ideas - this is a new thing for me, and while I have downloaded a few, they are from different types of organistaions and I am not sure if they are perfectly relevant. So if anyone has a document telling them about company colours, what fonts to use, whether they can use abbreviations etc, then let me know.

Hi all, help please. We don't have an incident book at the moment and I can't seem to find a list of what counts as an incident. Some people list existing injuries and biting, others put them in the accident book. Is there a definitive list? (It's probably somewhere obvious like the EYFS book but I'm sure someone out there knows ) Sue

Child Protection Policy

We have merged our Safeguarding Children's policy and Child Protection policy together. First question: is this acceptable? My committee member has used the Pre School Learning Alliance lay out and some of their wording for our policy. Second question: Have we covered everything. Are we up to date with the legislation and Act? Third question: where will we find the Area Safeguarding Children Committee guidelines? Fourth question: Is there a Protection of Children Act document/booklet and if so should one be on our premises? I am happy once I have updated the policy to put it in to the resources library but, would like to firstly make sure that all the inform…
