Staff inductions
by Guest- 1 reply

I am writing a feature for Nursery Management on staff inductions – and the importance of them. I’d like to hear from early years staff that may have had a poor or great induction - and what impact this may have had your experience of the job. Also, is there any standard guidance on inductions?

Does anyone know if there any set in stone rules regarding staff not being permitted to befriend parents in facebook and if so could you point me in the right direction of where to fine them? I've been trawling the internet trying to find something, so assume that there isn't?

Risk Assessments
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me. Is it neccessary to have risk assesments for everything in your setting i.e. toys? We do a risk assessment twice a day which covers the room, kitchen and outside area. I have also created risk assessments for staff who are pregnant or anyone who is in the setting that has not been DBS checked. I will also be doing one for using the school grounds with the pre-school children. But am aware previously there has been a risk assessment done on just about everything. We regularly check our resources for damage and wash them and record this. We also have our policies and procedures for things like nappy changes etc. Thank you!

Hi I currently have a child in my setting that has an inhaler for Asthma. We have all the medication and parental permission forms in line with requirements. Up until recently the child has not needed the inhaler during his time at our setting. The parent has now told us that the doctor has said that the child needs the ventolin inhaler every day at 11 am. My concern is that ventolin is a releiver inhaler not a preventative therefore i should only be administering it when the child is wheezy etc. Has anyone had this problem before and would i be justified in asking to gain written details from the doctor for us. Would i be permitted to add a clause to my administra…

Hi all I have a parent who's recently been given PR and he's been in today to look at his child's accident forms. We had a conversation and I showed him records, then he demanded copies for his records/ investigation! In all my years I've never had a parent ask for copies. Am I obliged to give them? I don't have a problem with doing so but need to know if I should be. Thanks. P.S I'm waiting with baited breath for your replies as he's expecting the email this evening.

Hi everyone, Does anyone have a head injury policy in their setting that you would feel comfortable sharing? We have accident forms and head injury advice slips but does anyone have an actual policy for them in place? Thanks in advance!

Hi, my daughter works in a nursery where the temperature inside this week has been as low as 10oC in the morning. The heating is put on in the morning but does not reach 18oC until lunchtime. Please can any one advise me as to whether this is acceptable or not. Thank you

Dear All, I hope your all well on this cold and frosty morning (well in London it is!!!) I wondered if anyone knows where I can obtain policies/procedure templates? I have taken over as manager at a private nursery and the polices at the setting are quite outdated. It would be so good if nurseries worked off the same 'template' then adapting to there own nursery? Many thanks
