Health And Safety/ Riddor
by Guest MaryEMac- 1 reply

Just wondered if anyone could give me some information about how far they go into health and safety and Riddor. We have been updating our policy documents using the PLA book and are becoming confused about how deep into the subject of health and safety/ Riddor we should be going. The local council said that recording accidents/incidents was fine as long as information was kept locked away from all and sundry. Obviously we know to inform ofsted and Riddor of any serious issues. In our situation we rent our space from the local school and wonder who would be liable if a parent tumbled outside our door. Is it the playgroup, the school or the diocese. the building is owned by…

Hi everyone, We have a few children that are beginning to bring in chocolate and sweets in their lunchboxes, but not much in the way of fruit or yoghurts. I am a mum and know first hand how hard it is to get children to eat healthily, so i don't want to offend anyone. However I would like to give parents some information about eating healthily and use the "5 a day" info Do any of you give parents a guide to healthy lunchboxes?? Many thanks x

Help. Does anyone know if there is a legal minimum age for a minor to bring and collect a nursery aged child to school. The parents of one of our 3 year olds are insisting that their 14 year old daughter can collect her sister. (Regardless of the fact she herself should be at school). I believed that there was a rule or policy of 16 or 18.

Just wondered what everyone else does.... We've just updated our policies and now have a whopping 45 pages.... In the past these have been photocopies (really tiny) and given to each new family... now I know that no one every really reads thems and it just seems a waste to send them to everyone. Would it be acceptable to issue a list of the policies available and where they can be obtained? Perhaps include the SEN, Equality, complaints, etc. that we HAVE to hold. Any views gratefully received!! Thank you.

I have been reviewing our policies and thought that they were all pretty uptodate and reflectived of our practices and where we should be... but regardless of this I purchased the PSLA policies document and have to say that having read their policies think I am going a little mad.... I don't understand where some of their thinking comes from and why it is necessary to have it in a policy. I really don't think it is necessary to have every little aspect of our provision scrutinised and written down ( or am I missing something?) I am actually pretty disgusted that it is considered necessary to write "staff will not make negative comments about a child's geni…

Sleeping Children
by Guest- 5 replies

Hi everyone, Don't know if anyone can help me but I'm sure I read somewhere that children's sleep shouldn't be disturbed. The reason that I am asking is I have a friend who works at a nursery and has a parent that isn't happy because staff won't wake her child if he is sleeping. I'm sure that I read somewhere in the EYFS literature that if children are asleep they should be left to wake up naturally. I have looked and can't find it anywhere and am now beginning to wonder if I have made it up, does anybody know if it is written anywhere??? Thanks Rapunzel
