We have a member of staff who will soon be returning from maternity leave and wants to have her baby in the baby room with her. we have the space to be able to do this and it seems like the obvious thing to do. The child's key person would be a different member of staff and we would hope that the returning member of staff would remain professional at all times. We do, however, realise that the baby will be at the age when he'll be very strongly attached to his mum and worry that he will cling to her all day, restricting her from working effectively within the room. Has anyone had experience of this situation? How did it work for you? Did any difficult situa…

New Child Inductions
by Guest- 11 replies

Hi all, As part of my new job which starts in September I have been asked to compile an induction booklet for new children. I thought it could include photos of key areas and items within the setting. I will then do an introduction to all staff ending with child's key worker and explain what the key worker will do for their child. I will then explain that the parent may stay with their child for as long as necessary and complete any outstanding paperwork. However, apart from the photos I am not quite sure what to include for the child themselves. At my previous settings we just answered parent's questions on the first day and it was all very informal - I…

Does anyone have a generic headlice letter that they wouldn't mind attaching so that I can send it out to my parents. I'm guessing this is the right thing to do. I was going to speak directly to the child's parents in question until my deputy stopped me an suggested I do it more generic because of safeguarding and singling children out which I guess makes good sense. Rhanks guys.

Evening I am currently updating the pre-school policies through the PSLA booklet but am worried that I am not getting any parent involvement in making the policies. Would like to know how other settings managed to get parents involved? Many thanks

Hello everyone, this is my first topic post so Hi to everyone!! We have a child in the setting who is a diabetic, but I have noticed whilst im in setting, the staff take his blood sugar reading but no record of it is made! They have all had a diabetic nurse come in and explain to them the procedures but my concern is that we hold no record for him, to even show his parents or nurse/doctor if they ask if we have noticed any pattern etc. Am i right I saying that we should be keeping a record in his file, of level, what he has eatten or drunk each day? Any guidance would be brilliant!! Thank xx

OMG! So I've actually handed in my written tasks- never ever thought i'd get there and now I have my visit in 9 days! I am ok with my document folder- being on the fulltime pathway. I feel I am limited. I am relying on my witnesses (considering I've been at my current setting since January this doe slimit me but I have no choice) and more importantly on my setting visit. Does anyone have any hints or tips? I have some herbs hung around the outdoor area (an activity I did with the kids) and I have a groovy world football display that I did. I also changed around the inside a bit to create a cosy space for children and an interactive display board in the toddlers. I am not …
