Our toilets are seperate from the setting itself as we are based in a community centre (a pack away setting). Is everyone using 2 members of staff to take the children to the toilet now as a safeguarding procedure I mean? What about nappy changing?

Me again!!! Was wondering what your views are n giving teething gel within a Day Nursery setting. Our Medication Policy states we can only administer Prescribed medication including Calpol. We can however apply nappy creams with just written consent from a parent/carer. I feel it would be fine to give teething gel and powders that are over the counter but would like your views.....if possible copies of Medication Policies would be good! Thanks Guys x

Epipen Training

We have two children with Epipen's and I explain to new staff how to use them in an emergency. Some of the staff felt they would not want to give the Epipen in an emergency without special training. They were mainly worried if something went wrong and it didn't work. We were all shown how to do administer the Epipen at a first aid course, but haven't had to use it yet thankfully. I am wondering if any of you had separate Epipen training administered ?

Hi, we have a new starter, a little girl who is now one of our eldest children. She's particularly clingy to dad when she comes in and Dad has told me that when she's really really upset, she can sometimes be sick. Last week it happened and we followed the rules, called the parents and they took her home. However, this morning I got a letter in from them stating that they feel their child shouldn't be sent home if she's sick because it is due to her being upset and she won't be ill or contagious. I'm not convinced that it's a good enough argument, after all, what if she was ill and did have a bug and we didin't send her home? Any thoughts please? I'm fee…

Please Help We have recently had a child attend Pre-School having just had her ears pierced, needless to say we are worried about her knocking her ears, other children hurting them etc especially when they are playing on climbing equipment or PE. This is the first time we have ever had a child with earings. Our leader has talked with the mother regarding our concerns especially during physical play and asking if we could cover them with tape. The mother was not very happy with this and does not want us to do anything with her daughters earings. Has anyone else ever had a situation like this? How did you deal with this, is this something we should ha…

Safe Lifting Policy?
by Guest Spiral- 6 replies

Hello, does anyone have a policy for safe lifting? Without having done the manual handling course I'm a little stuck. Is it worth my doing the course? Just a thought, I can't see anything that I lift that's heavy when all of it's on wheels, and we don't lift children. Spiral.

Hi - I am trying to ammend our photograph permission slip. I want to say in a clear and uncluttered way that often children will appear in photographs to be used in others journals because they are in the background or playing with the child being photographed and if they would rather their childs faces were hidden they need to let us know - but that seems dead garbled - can anyone help !!!!????
