Squash At Drink Time 1 2 3
by Guest- 62 replies

Following on from my hand washing question (we are going to fall into line on that one and do the washing thing), I now have a question about drinks. In the hot weather last summer I persuaded the staff to start offering squash, as my daughter doesn't drink either milk or water (yes I know I'm a bad mum!) and she was at serious risk of getting dehydrated. Today we had our EYA in and she picked up on this, and said that no other preschools are giving this as an option for children. Obviously we're aware of the whole healthy eating propaganda, sorry advice, that the government wants us to push, but we (I guess I mean I) feel quite strongly that it is more import…

I wonder if any of you level headed peeps out there can offer an opinion on this.... My son (4yrs not starting school til september but is in a reception class (independent nursery / school), went on an outing today. We were informed of outing and permission slip was signed and returned. The outing was to a venue about a mile away. On the permission slip there was no mention of transport so i assumed they'd walk (it's an easy walk). My son now tells me that his class all walked except for him (because, as he says: "I didn't want to"). My son went, on his own, in the car with the Nursery Nurse. I'm a bit shocked - on his own? without my knowledge? wha…

Hello, Basically, I work as a teacher in the Nursery attached to a primary school, and we do not have any separate policies. Is this correct? As well as not having any of our own policies, none of the policies even mention the nursery and my children are just encompassed with everyone else. How do other school nurseries do this? I am going to write a policy on nappy changing and procedures as we are just about to accept the first child in a nappy in the school's history! However should I be thinking about writing others such as safeguarding, curriculum, health and safety etc? If so where should i start?? Thanks in advance! Mucky Duck

Staff Shortage Policy?
by Guest- 3 replies
A few months ago we got hit with a heavy snow storm, this meant that not many staff could make it into nursery but a lot of the children who live close wanted to come in. Our owner was determined not to shut for a few days but we were unsure how we dealt with which children stayed ect so that we could stay in ratio!! Does any setting have a staff shortage policy as i am keen to know what to do if this happens again? Any help would be fantastic!

I am writing a health plan for a child and need to ensure I am referring to the correct document, I have googled and the 2005 document is the only one that comes up. Thanks in advance Claire x
