hello, i work in a nursery class attached to a primary school. recently our thermometer broke and due to the swine flu pandemic it has been impossible to replace the thermometer as they sell out so quickly! Today we had a child that seemed unwell-usually we would observe the child and take there temperature. As no thermometer was available we called the school to ask if we could borrow theirs. We were told that "We are not allowed to take temperatures any more"!!!? this advice was given from someone who has done first aid training. However our nursery assistant who is paediatric trained in first aid says this was not mentioned when she did her training 2 months ago. My fe…

Have now had information on Vetting and Barring, via safeguarding training. All new staff joining a setting required to be on the register before comencing employment and current staff will be phased onto it through out 2011. The £64 cost is to be paid by staff member, unless voluntary. Just thought I would share this info with everyone. http://www.isa-gov.org.uk/default.aspx?page=333

Cctv Policy
by Guest- 2 replies

I have asked this before but has anyone got a cctv policy for nursery? I cannot find a policy anywhere. The recordings are kept for no more than 30 days and are in all playrooms. I have been asked by a parent to see it. We have a checklist. Is this sufficient?

Accident/ Incident Forms

It was all so easy when I was childminding. At Playgroup, we keep all the completed forms in date order (sort of) in a ring binder, but I am sure this is not best practice. It doesn't easily lend itself to tracking - either the same childen being injured, or accidents happening in the same part of the setting again and again.

Hi Eveyone, Could anyone help me with this one!!! Does anyne have a procedure for parents taking home their childs learning diary to share with the child's parent or family memebers. As the learning diaries have other children in the pictures, i thought that we should have a policy or procedure which parents have to sign to say they give permission for the child picture to potential included in other learning jounals and these books will be shared with family members outside of the setting. Thanks Gemma

Hi, Does anyone have any info on how to write a transition policy and what to include in it? We were told by ofsted that it was a requirement. We are a separate setting and most of our children go to the local primary school. Where would I get some advice and support on this, or would someone kindly let me see there format? Thanks so much. I seem to be spending all my time with paperwork!!

My gorgeous little niece has contracted a pneumococcal meningitis and is very poorly in hospital. As you can guess we are all pretty upset and very busy back & forward to the hospital, but I was very keen that as soon as we had a diagnosis that I would contact her nursery, so they could inform and reassure the parents. I told them on Monday that she had been in hospital since Saturday and rang them on Wednesday morning as soon as they opened to inform them of the diagnosis. My concern is that they haven't informed the other parents. I have a friend who's son attends and they have said nothing. I know they have followed some proper procedure as the health protectio…

Lifting Children

Hello I need to include a section on lifting children in my H&S policy and wondered what yours may say and am I correct in saying that to correctly lift a child you kneel close to the child with one knee on the ground and the other foot on the ground, lift them onto your knee, then to your chest/hip depending on the size of the child, and then gradually stand up? Thanks ppp
