Garden Policy

I had a very angry granddad moaning at me as his grandsons coat got covered in mud after being in the garden (this child LOVES to roll in the mud) as we cant stop children from getting messy i thought i would make a policy explaining to parents that this is what will happen at nursery and why. Has anyone else got one that i can use as inspiration, or know of somewhere that will poiint me in the place. I want to word it in a way which informs the parent so I dont end up with any more complaints, but Im rubbish at wording things thanks x

Boys - Too Rough

Hi everyone, i really cant believe im up this early during half term ........i do have a reason tho airport run!! anyway just wanted to ask everybodies opinion on boys playing power rangers etc. I have a small number of boys in my class and I have to speak to them near enough everyday about calming down because all they want to do is pretend to fight each other. I let this go on to a certain extent because its their way of role play however it always goes toooooo far. Even when new things are brought out or introduced to the boys they always seem to go back to fighting. Has anybody got any ideas or suggestions that I could use in linking in with the boys interest…

Hi folks, Hope someone can offer some guidance/advice!! My setting is planning a day trip to a farm centre and the plan is that children are taken by a parent/carer so that all the children are accompanied. The staff will be attending and the setting will close for the day. The committee is putting pressure on me to take any children whose parents can't come and for them to be my responsibility - I'm not really happy about this but they can't see why... Any I just being a kill joy? Any views + or - would be very gratefully received! Thank you.

How Do You Do Yours?

Sadly not an ad for how you eat your cadbury's cream eggs! But a plea to ask people how they organise a typical Nursery session(I am part of a school btw). I have spent ages looking through the forums but can't seem to find anything that gives me advice easily. I read that free-flow and equal access to inside and outside is the best thing (and I do like it) but should we go straight into free-flow and then miss out on a hello/welcome/what are we doing today type session? If I do stop for a hello session then what should they do when they come straight in? and for how long? Do you interupt their CI activities to do a hello session? If I don't stop then how can I in…

Milk Fridge?
by Guest- 8 replies

In times gone by we have traditionally had a milk fridge and a 'normal' fridge, as this was the requirement. Can anyone enlighten me as to where I might find a reference to this in the requirements? I have looked in the statutory guidance and in what I can find relating to food safety but cannot find anything. Any suggestions?

As part of my Foundation Degree I am studying the Statutory Welfare Requirements (and very interesting reading it is too!) The legal requirements for information and compaints states:- Parents must be given free access to developmental records about their child (for example the EYFS profile) and I was just wondering how other people achieve this? In my setting profiles and evidence/observations are kept in individual folders in the filing cabinet and parents are reminded via the newsletter that they are welcome to ask to have a look at their child's file. We also have a 'helping hand' each day, after which parents get a review of their child's progress…

Hello all, I was just wondering what ideas you've all come up with to ensure that all staff are aware of children with allergies? We've got a system in place but I'm looking for better ideas to implement. Thanks, duggy.

We still don't seem to have got our drop off time quite right, so I'm after an outside viewpoint from you lovely people, please. Here's what happens at the moment: Parents arrive from 9.30 until about 9.45, as they come in a staff member meets them at the door and checks how long the child is staying (lunch club or not) and who is collecting, this is noted on a sheet (this works really well). When the parents leave, the staff member locks them out. The door is then reopened for free flow at 10am (in theory ) Now, the problem is that some parents turn up a bit late, and so one staff member gets tied up in filling out the sheet, then letting them in and lock…
