A mother dropped her son off today at pre-school and said nothing. On her return at 1.30pm she mentioned to our supervisor that she had been at the hospital on saturday as she had been so ill all week, and they confirmed it was swine flu. They did not give her the medication as they said she had had it for over 7 days but gave it to her son (4yr old). My immediate reaction is to contact the mother and ask her not to bring her son into pre-school for the rest of the week to prevent any further cases. Unfortunately, I realise we may be too late as he has already been at pre-school today. Has anyone been in the same situation dottyp

Staff Handbook
by Guest- 4 replies

Just on the scrounge for good ideas, really. We want to put together a staff handbook to give to staff, to help them understand the procedures they need to follow. I was going to 'translate' each of our policies into a brief set of procedures to go in this. Can anyone thinking of anything else I should put in while I'm doing it? (Or does anyone have a handbook already that they are willing to share, as a starting point?)

Hi, I need to update the risk assessment we have for students that come in to the setting and I wondered if anyone has any ideas I can add to them please? I've got the main tasks so far as playing with the children, craft, tidying up and setting up. I can't really think of anything else but I feel like i'm missing something really obvious

Hello, for all you managers of committee ran nursery's - Who writes and reviews your policies? I am having a little bit of trouble as I have suggested a new set of policies (the previous ones were out of date and up for review) I have revamped them all using the PSLA template with EYFS fancy bits on and now I am being questioned by a committee member with many queries, like she thinks they are too much information, we have too many, they have too much procedure alongside policy.....don't get me wrong I am happy to go with the committee decision on this but being manager I do believe what I wrote is what we do....I am really just gathering your input - she also ask…

Minimum Age For Volunteers?
by Guest- 8 replies

Hi, we have had an offer from the older sister of one of our children to help out one day a week during part of the session. She is 16, would she be allowed to come and help or is there a minimum age for volunteers? I just know one of you will be able to give me a speedy answer and I can't bear another phone call to Ofsted, they must think I'm stalking them. Thanks!

Pay For Snow Days?

I am currently a pre school teacher and although the nursery I work at hasn't closed in our recent snow days staff like myself who have to travel some distance haven't been able to get in. Our boss has been understnding and very sympathetic and wouldn't want us to travel if it meant risking our saftey. She has said that we will be paid for one day but that the other 2 days must be taken out of our annual holiday or made up by working extra hours. My only grievence with this is that the parents are still paying for their children even if they don't attend, so therefore my boss is still receving an income! Just wondered what other peoples views were on this subject?

Social Networking Policy

Some advise required. Many of my staff had accepted parents as friends on Facebook, which did concern me as I want staff to maintain professionalism, which facebook tends to not put across in some cases. All the staff signed a confidentiality agreement. I have given several reminders to staff about not accepting parents, and recently reminded staff that ALL parents must be removed. I now have three members of staff who still have parents as friends and I want to instigate a disciplinary procedure. Has anybody had experience in this area. Thanks for any help you can give.
