Risk Assessment Form
by Guest- 16 replies

Hi all, I need to write a risk assessment following on from my meeting today with the fire officer. I need to find a form that allows me to write about our discussion, the points he raised, and our assessment together of the risks involved. There's quite a lot to include. Does anyone have a blank that gives space for me to put quite a lot of detail in? The forms we currently use are a bit short for what I'm after.

Mixed Age Ranges

Our registration says up to 28 children age 2+. It used to say 2 1/2 and we were only allowed 4 under 3s. There are advantages and disadvantages to this. There are more places filled but we have to have a higher staff ratio for under 3s. At the moment numbers are very low so this isn't an issue. However the big question we have is how do you manage the environment with under 3s and over 3s together? So many toys say suitable for 36 months +. How can we do what is best for all the children? Any thoughts?

Hello all, slightly confused as to how we use the incident book. I know it shouldn't be used to record any child protection issues (these we would keep on the child's individual record file), but where do you record any pre existing injuries that a child may have? We currently make a note in the incident book, but perhaps they should go in our accident book (even though they do not relate to accidents on our premises). I know there are specific things that must be recorded in the incident book such as break ins, major accidents and deaths, fires, major incidents (evacuation for gas leaks/terrorist attacks etc,) but ours is just full of "child X had abrasions to face.…

Could anyone please advise how they go about saying 'yes' or 'no' to parents/visitors recording or taking photographs during their Nativity/Christmas Play. I have permission for photos to be taken during normal session time from parents, but with the more recent press/media I am unsure of legal requirements/good practice. dottyp

Hi everyone Please can I have your practices and opinions regarding artificial nails and infection control? We are basically following healthcare professions guidance at present (apart from banning false nails all together) At present we say that nails should not protrude from the end of your finger and if you choose not to take off your stones rings or are wearing artificial nails then we insist gloves are worn during snack time. One member of staff likes to have them longer and is upset that she should be asked to wear them shorter. She would rather wear gloves all day than change the length of her nails. We recently had an environmental health i…

On Friday a Father of a 2yr old came to collect her at close of session. No staff had ever seen him before and the mother had not notified us that morning. It was a very difficult situation, as although the child obviously responded well to him when he arrived, she would not say who he was! We phoned 'mum' to confirm it was 'Dad' who was collecting today but she was extremely put out that we'd phone to check. Her response was 'well it's her Dad, so I didn't think I needed to mention it this morning!' On reflection, does anyone have a 'collection' policy they would be willing to share to avoid any future problems or would it be sufficient to just write out our proc…

Hi We have a child staring in our setting soon with hydrocephalus. Just wondering if anyone has come across this before. I would like to put a health care plan in place, I have the administering medicine plans etc but this child wont actually be taking any medicine. Does anyone have any type of health care plan that doesn't involve medicine etc that they would be willing to share? many Thanks Kris
