I know it's been asked before but I keep coming up with different answers. What documents do I need to keep in preschool and for how long? Is there a definitive list somewhere? We have just lost a lot of storage space and need to prune something. thanks Al

Our policy states that no person under the 18 can collect from the nursery, however, i cannot find this in the standards. Does anyone know whether this is statutory or not? We have a parent who wants her niece to collect, who is 17, just not really sure where we stand legally! Any help would be appreciated!!

Hi as part of my new role as Preschool leader I have to update policies along with the commitee. The current ones are photocopied, long winded and not adapted from what I have seen. Although I have only been at the setting for 2 weeks I dont feel some of the Policies reflect the practice. Not having had this responsibility before I was hoping for some tips and suggestions? Many thanks C

Hi, I want to design a confidentiality agreement for our committee members to sign (we are a pre-school). While we have a policy in place, I want something which will be more prominent to make sure parents don't discuss wages, fee arrangements, financial situations, etc which might come up at committee meetings. has anybody got anything similar they would be willing to share? Thank you in advance

Bare with me, this is only my 2nd post and Im not very good with words....Here goes: Basically my setting (Fulldaycare 3months-8years) is just off a main street. There is a front courtyard, then a downstairs like foyer area. You then have to go up the flight of stairs to get to our actual nursery door which is also bolted shut. We use the front courtyard as a garden and the foyer has displays etc as it is still part of our nursery. The foyer is where the parents leave pushchairs as they can't get them up the flight of stairs (We are moving premises in 12 months time) to the nursery. We also have a comments box in the foyer and on the same table is photo albums of previo…

Free Flow And Fire Doors
by Guest- 24 replies

Hi all, wondering if someone can answer this query that came up today. We have an internal fire door with a sign on it saying 'keep shut'. Now that we have free flow this has to be hooked open or the children can't free flow properly, as it is in the corridor which leads to the outdoor area. Can anyone tell me if it is okay to keep this door and the outside door hooked open during free flow? Also, any tips as to what to do as it gets colder - do people still keep their external doors open? If we don't open it, the children probably won't even think to go outside. And the staff are already starting to complain in preparation for being asked to go out in the win…

Hi Can you tell me how you manage nappy/pull up changing in your setting. I have a policy. I wondered how you actually ensured that children in nappies or pull ups are checked and how frequently. Do you have a set time when all nappies are checked or is it down to the keyperson to prepare a personalised schedule for their key children. What if the keyperson is not there? Do you have any forms you would be willing to share? Thank you. Key persons have a list of personalised changing times for the young children in their care who are in nappies or ‘pull-ups’.

Parents As Parners

Hello, I have just started a new job as a leader of a pre-school within a school. Parents do not come within the setting to drop off or pick-up because it is within the school. Apart from the obvious things like talking, I have thought up of many ideas to include parents such as: A weekly sharing session on a rota system A4 binder containing all info that can be placed in school reception newsletter home learning journeys & daily diary I have also picked up on this fab forum the WoW wall. What i was wondering is if there are anyother practitioners out there that face similar challenges regarding including and sharing with parents. An…
