Nappy Change Facilities/staff Area
by Guest- 10 replies

Advice needed please! We are in the lucky position of having a purpose built pre-school being put up in the grounds of the local school along with a rural children's centre with whom we will be working alongside in the same building, from different rooms but still be separate businesses. I have been asked to feedback on the initial designs which I have done so, most of my points raised were agreed with and acted upon except my queries regarding the following:- 1. The toilets for staff use are located across the foyer in the main entrance and not within the setting, plus there is no staff area for use when staff take breaks. We will be full time 8am - 6pm. …

Staff Appraisals
by Guest- 6 replies

Currently staff appraisals are not done in my work place unless you are a teacher! I would like to start doing them with my staff (we work under the school umbrella) in private nursery provision and afterschool club. Can anyone point me in the direction of any examples please? Do you have anything you use that works really effectively? Is it one form you and your staff write on or do you both do separate ones? How often? Yearly? Are the goals/ objectives reviewed before the next appraisal? Look forward to hearing your thoughts. Thanks for your time!!

Hi just wondered how you all do this. If a child is at your setting a couple of mornings a week and attends another one for two mornings how do you get the information from the other setting on how they are doing etc. I know we should be exchanging notes ofsted and eyfs requirement. I was thinking about doing a questionare for the other setting to feel in. Does anyone have a questionare or what do you all do. Dorinda

Playgroup Policies
by Guest- 8 replies
Hiya, I have recently took over the running of a playgroup within a homeless family unit - due to us being open for 2 hours a day, we are not required to be registered with Ofsted. (And also due to it being on residential premises.) However, I am hoping to start running it more like a nursery, in the sense that we will have updated policies and start to work from the EYFS. I have found some outdated policies from a previous leader, but have never done anything like this before. I was wondering if someone could help explain the sort of policies I would need, and also any other documentation that I should have? Thanks Love Kim x

Hi! Bit of a technical question coming up - any help gratefully received! I am opening a new nursery completely different to my first. Previously my climbing equipment for the children has been on safety flooring to a critical fall height of 2.5m so no problems there. For my new nursery I have a garden and I cannot find out what the recommended critical fall height is after many hours 'googling' - anybody got any idea?? Obviously it's going to be difficult to ascertain due to the changing nature of natural surfaces but I would have thought there was some kind of minimum. Thanks!!

Hi everyone Wondered if you could help? One Mum has just asked if she can bring in some soya milk for her child as she has been advised to try to avoid it for a while to see if it could be causing problems. Just wondered, shouldn't we as a setting be providing this to ensure we are being inclusive? We provide cows milk although we don't pay for it. Have any of you come across a similar situation? How do you deal with it? Thanks Deb
