Risk Assessments

Does anyone have an example of a risk assessment for a child with a broken collar bone? Hospital have given the all clear for him to return to pre-school but obviously with extra care. Do you think we need a seperate risk assessment specifically for this child?

Hi, we have a few parents who are on our bank staff (suitably qualified obviously). Sometimes we need to call them in at short notice, and they can't necessarily arrange alternative childcare, and as their children are at the setting other days we say they can bring them in and not pay. We need to formalise our policy on this at our next committee meeting. The options that I can think of are: - Maybe ask them to pay a token fee (e.g. 1/3 of normal session cost) - Let them bring child in for free - Where more than X amount of notice given (e.g. 48 hours) then ask them to either make alternative arrangements or pay full session cost. I can't think of any oth…

This is the first post I have done so here goes.... I work in a pre-school and we have a health and safety file but we are very aware this now needs updating (its been on the 'to do' list for a while) and would like to ask all you lovely people what kind of information you have in yours? We currently have fire regulations, fire drils, COSHH information and risk assessments. Is there anything we are missing? Thank you. samfrostie

Biting

Hi I am having a problem with a child, the child is 4 years old, so know what they are doing, the child is very aware of everything and very on the ball. They have a behaviour issue, always hitting throwing things, if they dont get there own way. Will be playing very nicely with someone, then within a split second will have turned and be hurting the other child. The problem is they are 4years old and very strong, the child is hurting adults and children, to the point even the adults have bruises and bite marks. We are working with early years, but to be honest the child is leaving to go to school in august, so little they can do in this time. Another p…

Free Flow Policy

Hi, We've recently gone to free flow at our pre-school and I have written the free flow policy in conjunction with our setting leader because I felt we needed to have one. Please could anyone advise whether this covers all the bases, or whether I've missed anything obvious out. Or if you have one of your own that you're willing to share that would be great! Does anyone already have a Whistleblowing policy, and if so, would they be willing to share? Nursery World, 18.6.09, p.4: Catherine Rushforth refers to "Working Together to Safeguard Children," and states that Ofsted recommends such a policy should be in place, but I have never come across a sample policy. Would it be worded on similar lines to a safeguarding policy whereby the first port of call would be the Safeguarding Co-ordinator, or manager of the setting, and if no action was taken, anyone is able to report directly to NSPCC, Saeguarding Board, etc., but in a whisteblowing situation would then refer the matter to Ofsted? I would hate to think a member of st…
