Prior written permission is obtained from parents for each and every medicine before it is given. There is a record of all medication given and parents informed on the day. The above is taken from the statutory guidance and I wondered if anyone could explain the statement? For children on long term meds can we just have a health care plan and then an administering sheet. This reviewed then how often? Any thoughts gratefully received

The other day a staff member was assisting a young child with their clothing when they noticed 3 faint small round bruises near their bottom. They called myself over automatically saying they look like finger marks which yes it could have been but you cannot jump to conclusions. I asked my manager to inspect them and she was unsure saying it could be a smack mark or could be something else and again we shouldn't jump to conclusions. We have no real concerns about the child, Anyway she said she would record it just on a piece of paper and file it somewhere in case a picture emerges. When I spoke to another manager from another setting they said they would have filled it in…

Hi Am looking at making a better policy and procedure for when children have diarrhoea and need to be excluded for 48 hours. How do other settings implement this? Finding parents don't like taking children home for 48 hours and need something more forma in place to be able to back up sending them home. Thanks

Outdoor Play

Hi Just wondered if anyone had any good links to 'outdoor play does not lead to illness...' type links please? We are starting to get the usual grumblings about children being outdoors and catching colds, which, as we know, is ridiculous, but I'd like to be able to point parents in the direction of some evidence to back up what we tell them!

Has anyone got a risk assessment for a child coming back to nursery that had had a broken bone? This child has the right amount of time, though someone mentioned about us putting in a bit of a disclaimer should the child hurt herself in the same area. I've risked assessed before, but not put anything like that in, as I thought I would be covered as long as I take steps to ensure her safety. Thanks Debbie ?

Hi there, I have recently attended a training day on the five to thrive initiative and we are working on some ideas within our setting on how to promote it to our families. I was wondering what other nurseries have taken the initiative on board and what strategies have been successful for you when delivering it? Also any other comments regarding five to thrive would be very helpful. Thanks in advance
