Hi again! im so glad ive got this website in my times of teaching despair! I am just going over my planning (whilst browsing!!) and realised that i have planned to talk to my reception class tomorow about easter. Now i apologise if this sounds really stupid but i don't know how to approach the religious side of it without confusing them with death and resurection. Aahhh! I really haddnt thought about it till now. I have got a usborne easter story but it's a bit vague! How do you do it? (this is my 1st year) p.s im really not that stupid, (i hope!)x

St Patrick's Day

We're having an 'Irish week' the week of St Pat's. Haven't got a clue what its going to entail yet, its a whole school thing (possibly to do with linking to schools in Ireland but I'm not sure) thought I'd be super geeky (well best now while i'm on hols and feeling inspired!) and try and get some ideas in advance as these things usually are geared at the older kids. Any ideas of activiies of ANY kind we could do would be much appreciated. Musical, creative, whatver. All I keep thinking of are shamrocks and snakes....!

Mother's Day Cards

Thinking of a previous discussion on encouraging individual creativity versus producing a nice finished result what are you all doing for mother's day? St Davids is the Monday before so Daffodil Cards are springing to mind which I'm sure the kids and mums will love but is it wrong to have them all producing the same thing? Any original ideas? (preferably something cheap and easy to prepare!)

Do you make pancakes On Shrove Tuesday? I have always done so but my HT says that we can no longer do this for health and safety reasons. I always cooked them while the children watched from a safe distance. I have been told that I must do a 'Blue Peter' and have some ready cooked. How then do the children see the scientific change?

I was just looking at next term’s planning and needed to search for important dates that we usually mark at Nursery in some way. Thought they might be useful to other people. Eid-ul-Adha - 21-24 January 2005 Shrove Tuesday - Tuesday 8 February 2005 Chinese New Year - Wednesday 9 February 2005 (year of the Rooster) Mother’s Day - Sunday 6 March 2005 Good Friday - Friday 25 March 2005 Easter Sunday - Sunday 27 March 2005 I look forward to having pancakes and Chineses food tasting on two consecutive days! Any others that I've forgotton? Jackie

Hi Everyone I'm Rani, doing a pgce in early years. At the moment I'm doing my first placement in a nursery, which is free-flow with 80 children. As I am sikh I celebrate diwali and so the nursery asked if i would like to do this. I agreed and decided to do some rangoli patterns following on from bonfire night and the patterns u would c in the sky as the fireworks explode. Any way i thought I would move from that and and show the children how Hindus draw patterns outside their homes with rangoli to invite the God to come and bless them with wealth and prosperity. The problem is the teacher asked me how I would explain what a pattern is to the children, does anu…

I was given a memo today asking me to spend my remaining budget before the 1st November or it will be taken away! As my topic next half term is Festivals I would quite like to spend some of it on this as there is nothing useful for Foundation Stage in school at the moment. Because the money needs to be spent quickly I would apprecite it if anyone could let me know of any useful websites where I can spend my cash! Thank you
