Hi all We are planning a 'once upon a time' topic. Of course we will see where the children lead with the topic, but with only 5 children on roll for September I think we will need some ideas too :1b I would like to bring in traditional tales as well as castles, knights, dragons etc. Any ideas or things you have done before for this topic that work well? Thanks in advance

After months and months of pirate play, the boys have switched over to Super Heroes. We have lots of ideas on what we can do and I have started out with Super Hero Mission Cards, very successful especially as they got to ring a very loud bell when they managed to do what the mission was, i.e, listen to what an adult is saying! However, from a chat with the boys (yes I'm afraid the girls really are not interested at this point) it is clear that they have no idea what their heroes actually do! I found this video from Boogie Mites a few weeks ago and decided to give it a try in my Music and Movement session for infants: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgmGyqOlLzY I had 8 infants with parents/carers in attendance today and began with the Peek-a-boo rhyme game. It was a massive success and I had a room full of giggling, smiling and shrieking babies! Everyone seemed to have a great deal of fun (I know I did!) so I just thought I'd share it. I really recommend that anyone who has the opportunity to do this activity gives it a try I only wish I could have filmed it like Boogies Mites!

I have been given a load of lengths of balsa wood in various sizes and thicknesses. Do you know if it's ok for the children to use, to cut, stick and tape together to make aeroplanes, etc? Any thoughts - are there any reasons why not ? Thanks V
