hi all this term our topic is nursery rhymes - next week we are focussing on sing a song of six pence. As a literacy focus we are making honey sandwiches and sequencing the instructions to make them. However i am struggling to think of exciting literacy starters for each day based on sequencing. All ideas would be welcome!!!

Less Messy Glueing And Sticking Activity!

I came across an activity this afternoon that I'd never seen before but which was so successful that I feel the need to share...apologies to all those who have been doing it for years! I was helping out at a Stay and Play session, the theme of which was glueing and sticking. The session was for 0-5s and we had a good range of ages attending from 12 months upwards - every one of the children absolutely loved that activity and stayed at it for a long time. It was SOO simple and so effective - t…

Hello everyone, I am hoping to start the new term with a topic called My Favourite things. This will give me a basis to work on but will not be set in stone - do people think this is still ok to do? Here are my ideas so far - Favourite food/ drink - link to healthy eating/ baking/ making/ preparing food, favourite colour - colour mixing/ handprints, favourite animals - classification/ variation/ sorting, clothes - materials, music or song, classroom activitiy - link to different areas, favourite book, film, cartoon, sport ... I also though the children could explore early stages of data handling and sorting throughout the topic. What do people think? Any ideas, examples,…

I'm running a Stay and Play session for 0-5s next week on the theme of Messy Food Play. I've got a store of old favourites in my head but fancy trying something different - what is your favourite activity, what do the children ask for time and time again??

Fairies

Has anyone done a topic on fairies? Last week the sunshine was reflecting off my watch on to the wall - which led to the children trying to catch it. This lasted a good five minutes with them arguing over who would catch the fairy first. Another staff memebr made a play of catching the fairy and then passing it on to a child who had been upset earlier. He then released it outside after all the children had closed their ideas and made a wish. This has now led to them trying to name the fairy and telling the other groups of their friend. I was thinking of writing a little letter with fairy dust sprinkled on to it to thank them for releasing the fairy (from the fairy iykwim)…
