We have a child who has not long ago come here from Sri Lanka with her family. They are all lovely but not very much English between them so it is not too easy to ask for ideas from them. Does anyone have any ideas of something we could do as an activity to celebrate their home culture?

Time Travel

I'm doing a topic based around the past. I have a very mixed age class (R, 1, 2) and was wondering if anyone had any ideas for the reception children? I have the formal side of things covered, but was wondering if you could help with the independent activities and also some ideas for the role play area (which will be a time machine - not sure how it's going to look yet!). Thanks

After the fab sand tray post I was wondering what people put in with their water in the water tray? We've used cooked pasta (boiled with food colouring in the water); ice and then the usual bubbles; 'Brusho' etc. New ideas needed please!!! Lucy x

Hi All, Hoping to pick your brains! Our children have loved the story Stick Man by Julia Donaldson - one of my favourites too. Keep asking for it at the moment and love joining in with all the refrains. They even wanted to sing it on Friday! So thought we might do some activities around the theme. Today we put a range of materials out in creative area to make a Stick Man such as twigs, brown pipe cleaners and goggly eyes, and also a card one with moveable arms and legs using split pins as an alternative idea. Children enjoyed this and they look great - all very different but very effective with some children using the book to add more detail such as leaves for a h…

For some reason rhyme is always an area that stumps me!!! I am desperate for a fun and exciting way to teach it. I find it's either some children can do or they can't! Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome please x

New to this so hope this is the way to do things!! Our whole school focus is science this year and this term we are focusing on encouraging the children to ask questions. My current topic with my Reception is Goldilocks and the 3 bears. I've gathered lots of ideas for different areas but I'm struggling with ideas for science. I'm going to have a feely box- soft/hard materials. We will be making porridge - noting changes, tasting. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks gretna
