Hi there everyone I'm at that stage in the year where I'm beginning to pull my hair out with writing development! I have a group of children who have gone from mark making to writing recongisable letters However they seem to be stuck there and are not able without massive support to use their phonic knowledge to begin to write the appropriate/dominant sounds in words. I sometimes use the rearrange and stick a muddled up simple sentence strategy and have occassionally used overwriting their dictated sentence. I was wondering what others are doing and how they would go about tackling this? I though about the ELS type of groups that they do in Year 1 (targeted daily su…

We have been thinking about introducing country dancing for a while The only experience the staff and i have of this is when we did it at school some 20 years ago All we can remember is do - si - do, promenade and heel toe. Just wondered if anyone still does it, how to do it, any videos available etc. Also i would love to get hold of the music that was used then but i remember it being a crackly record!

Ice Balloon

I'm hoping someone can help! I've just stood in the kitchen with water spilling everywhere and balloons popping in my face! On Friday I am delivering a half dya workshop course on sand, water and messy play and I want to set up balloons in the water - 1 with air, 1 with water and 1 with ice. My mind has gone a complete blank, and I can't remember how you get the balloon partly blown up and add the water to freeze - there is a trick and I can't remember - unless I dreamt it! Does anyone know the secret??? Many thanks Jenny

Hi, hope someone can help me. I seem to be having a mental block at the moment with teaching addition and subtraction to my Reception class. I really want some great play based activities rather than use the dreaded worksheets. If you can help me out I would really appreciate it.

The Circus

Hello We are thinking about doing a little end of term performance to mark the transfer of our nursery children to their new Reception classes. We normally do a sing-song but all fancy something a bit more adventurous. We have four main groups and are trying to think of "acts" which of course can include singing, around a "circus" theme. We have a few ideas, such as 5 little elephants balancing (though not sure how pc it is to have animal acts in a circus these days!), funny clowns etc but I'm very hopeful that some of you will have some really inspiring ideas. Thanks
