Role Play For Festivals?
by Guest- 8 replies
- 2.5k views
Hi everyone. I have decided to have "festivals" as my topic next half term. The only problem is that I can't think of a role play area. The last two weeks will be Santa's workshop, but I need ideas for the previous five weeks when we will be celebrating Bonfire night, Divali, Eid, Shichi-Go-San and Hannukkah. Any ideas would be really appreciated!! Kaybee

We have been allocated lots of hall time which might be very useful as our outdoor area is difficult to get to as we are in temporary accommodation at the moment! Any ideas for useful cross-curricular activities that we can do? We do the usual circle songs, parachute, small apparatus etc. Thanks in anticipation.

Knowledge And Understanding

I am a Nursery teacher and it is that dreaded settling in time at the moment. I have just been told that our head will be observing all teachers fairly soon. At that particular time i will be exploring the science box 'How things work'. Although i have the set questions in my mind i'm getting a little anxious because it is the first time i have taught at the beginning of Nursery year. So i am aware that i need to keep things a little simple yet challenging as well! Can anyone suggest how i might tackle the dreaded hour, or any suggestions on questions or items to put out. Becoming more and more anxious by the day!!!!

Child-initiated Activities
by Guest- 6 replies

Hello all, We are a 2 form entry school and have I think made great progress in the way that we work in Reception over the last two years, with regard to child-initiated learning and the use of the outside area. At the moment, we have two child-initiated sessions a day with free-flow between the classrooms and shared outdoor area. We are thinking of giving the children completely free access to either classroom or outside, providing different activities in each room during these sessions, rather than offering the same activities and restricting children to their own room (or outside), as we do at present. I will be working with someone new to the FS who is very keen,…

Help

Hello, I really hope somebody can help. I have got an interview this week for a job in an early years unit BUT first of all I have to 'undertake a task with the children!') I am to take circle time with 10-15 nursery children who will be moving up to reception. (Early Learning Goal: PSE: be confident to try new activities, initiate ideas and speak in a familiar group) All of the children have English as an additional language(Bangladeshi origin) and I have zero practical experience of teaching children with EAL. I would really appreciate some ideas. Thanks jo

What a great idea to share tried and tested recipes on this site. I have just been looking at your recipes to look for inspiration for cooking at school for our end of term party. I love the idea of painting biscuits. Just a small query with the recipe for "flapjacks". The ingredients say "3 large eggs". I have never used eggs in flapjacks before and cannot see them in the cooking instructions. Is this a new recipe or an accidently-on-purpose deliberate mistake?!! Jackie

calling all imaginations I needed a wee bit of inspiration for our role play area. Our topic is water (my clever colleagues next door are doing 'under the sea'). I've done Mrs Wishy Washy's laundry for a couple of years and want a change... any ideas ?? (I've seen a pirate ship in a book but the construction looks a little challenging.) We don't have any sides to the role play area bar a couple of screens. Liza
