hiya i have wrote to the PLA and asked them to approve our new constitutions as we need the 60% parents rule removing. they have refused. has anyone got the PLA to agree to any changes to this? i know i can go to the charity commission and get them to approve it so i may just have to do that but wanted to check thanks gen

Wasnt sure how to word the title! Hello everyone Im new here and would appreciate a little guidance. Myself (as chair) and indeed entire committee were voted in in October - all new members. Can I ask how much you share in respect of the day to to day running with the whole committee as opposed to just the officers? Im wondering if every single decision needs to be decided upon as a whole? We are a large committee (12) and sometimes trying to obtain a snap/quick decision is not always possible

Re-using existing DBS checks

Has anyone every used an existing check for someone joining the committee? We have a lady who has agreed to join the fundraising arm of the committee, so no involvement with working with children or the financial running of the pre-school and she had a DBS check done 3 months ago for her job at another nursery. As far as I am aware she didn't join the update service, but it seems absolutely daft to me to go through the rigmarole of running another check. If we did use it, do we just need to fill in an EY3 to send to Ofsted to inform then that she is on our committee?

Hi all, I have committee members who completed EY2 paper version and have never stood down (I know lucky me) so have old police check too. Each AGM they are re elected to continue their service. I've never re done their EY2 or asked them to get a DBS through Ofsted as its never been questioned as its continued service. I've seen a note from someone saying they need updating to electronic EY2 and DBS as they are re elected each AGM, does anyone else do this?? I'm going to read a bit more into it as well but I thought easiest thing would be to ask you lot x

Hi all, we are currently committee run and it's like pulling teeth every year at the AGM to get anyone involved (as I'm sure a lot of you have experienced) and even when they do volunteer nobody turns up to the committee meeting. We have heard about the option of becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, but wondered what's involved and how easy it is to do? What I read up it looked quite complicated. What do we gain by doing this? Thanks as always for your opinions.

Can a chairman who is stepping down at the next AGM be employed as either a manager or administrator? The committee wants to employ the person as she has knowledge and childcare qualifications so has been doing a lot of the admin work already and feel without her the Pre-School would struggle. Which would be best manager or administrator? We have a leader and assistants, the manager/administrator would also need to be paid cover staff and would do paper work (policies, up date register, get all documents ready for new children, fees etc) Any help with this would be helpful. Thank you

We have the key children and buddy children assigned to each staff member under manage staff key children but if I wanted to produce a snap shot of just each staff members key children I can't filter the results enough. Is there anything you suggest/advise/create? Thanks in advance!

Help, We are having issues with ratios. Is it Ok to mix ratios? For example if you had 10 3 year old and 5 2 yr olds you need 3 staff. In this scenario 2 of the 3 year olds can br counted in the 2 year old ratio. Is this right?

We are in a position of having now secured our building, or rather the building being secured for us, that we have an opportunity to develop from a sessional playgroup to full daycare nursery provision. We have the PLA constitution and are aware of the rules regarding assets and money in the bank etc. However, is there a way that this can be transferred to the new business or are we bound by the constitution? We would be looking at no longer being a charity and being a limited company, unliess one of the other CIO type models might work. It seems daft (although I understand charity rules) to have to sell everything we have to have to buy it again or the new owner …
