To tie in with the moving premises thread - we might be able to stay where we are and we are thinking business development opportunities and offering more hours to effectively become full day care but also offer a short 'traditonal' playgroup day. Do we HAVE to offer hot meals at lunchtime? Currently children bring packed lunches. Out of practice with regulations at the moment, so just getting up to speed and thought I'd ask in here too. Hot meals would be the preferred option, but just wondering.... Thanks! RB x

Hi Need a bit of advice in a hurry unfortunately, as I have a committee meeting to attend tonight. The question is: Can you use the PSLA model constitution if you are not a member? Not sure this is the case, but no harm in checking!

I've been around here for a long time and I think this must be the strangest question I've ever asked.... How do you serve bananas at snack time? One of my colleagues had an observation today and part of it was snack preparation. The tutor picked up that sliced bananas (into circles) were a choking hazard. We have 2-4 year olds in our setting and key workers all sit with the children at snack time. The member of staff sliced them into long strips today and they all went back to the kitchen!! Please tell me she is making this up..... (or provide any evidence to show that we have been serving a potential hazard for the last however many years)

Hello, I'm after advice of how other committee pay their staff. Currently ours are employed on a self employed basis so we expect them to do their own tax & ni. We pay on the last working day of the month for the hours they worked that month. The staff get 4 weeks holiday per year 2 at summer 1 at Christmas and 1 at Easter. Rest of school holidays are unpaid. The staff sign a long term contract with us. However a member of staff has questioned are they employed or self employed, also can we set out rules such as staying with preschool for 2 years after we pay for qualification for them? We are charity registered. Any advices appreciated.

We are currently in a chapel, which has just been put up for sale (anyone got a spare £300k to buy it for us?! No?) We are desperately trying to find a new building, still in the same area, but in a small rural Yorkshire village, that's hard! When (and if) we find something, what is the time scale for changing registration and checking suitability with Ofsted? Could they actually refuse a registration? I've emailed them but thought I'd get a true picture from people who have been through it! Also, has anyone any experience of time scale for planning applications? We've got our eye on an old mill unit but it's a shell. I think we need a change of use but as it's t…

DBS Checks for Volunteers

Hi all, I'm new to this forum and hope you can help, I'm not sure if this question is in the correct place! We need to run a DBS check for a volunteer and I'm not sure how to start the ball rolling. In the past we have always had the person complete a paper copy of the EY2 and post it to Ofsted, however, I understand that you can no longer do this and must apply on-line, however, we don't appear to have received any information on this and I can't find any information on-line. Is there a link I can go onto to request a check? We use TMGCRB for our staff checks, but they don't do volunteers. Thanks in advance

Hi all not sure which is the best thread for this but I feel we are being charged a huge amount of money for our hall. However this maybe the going rate and I just want something for nothing. Would anybody be willing to share what they pay yearly for the rent of a hall in a pack-away setting? We are paying over 13,000 a year and yet not so far from us someone else was paying 4,000. Would just like something to compare with. many thanks
