Am I being dim? Our new committee duly filled in their EY2 forms which I posted to Ofsted. They were returned with a letter explaining Ofsted no longer handle hard copies of the EY2. None of them have managed to do them online so I thought I'd take a look at it. This is as close as I can get. http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/early-years-and-childcare/become-childcare-provider-or-childminder/register-provide-childcare-non-domestic-premises I can't find EY2 on their site either, is it saying they don't need to do anything??!

Sorry this is going to be vague as I can not say much. I have a staff member whos suitability has been brought into question by another agency (it's not a LADO issue or anything that falls into that remit) I had a meeting with member and went through it all, I have now knowing everything made the decision that it's not an impact on work etc my problem lies with fact that my head of committee board can not hold their own water and I'm always cautious In what information I pass on! plus they know in a personal round a bout way the person in question. Would it be ok for me to say what I've told you lot and that's it? Therefore they are aware but don't hold any sensitive i…

Interview questions for new Practitioner & Manager
by Guest colechin- 13 replies

Morning everyone, Please could you help me. I am stepping down as Manager of a committee run nursery. The chair, who is new (3 weeks) has asked that I join her to interview for my replacement and also for an additional practitioner. Does anyone have interview questions that I may look at please. I haven't had to interview in the past due to the long service of my practitioners and I have been in the Managers post for 12 years. As the chairperson has been on holiday for the last week and half, I have asked the prospective candidates to visit the nursery, meet the staff and spend a little time with us. This helped us and the candidates decide which role they…

Quick question - our Supervisor has mentioned in passing that we are now no longer allowed to employ unqualified staff, unless they are committing to undertake training leading to a childcare qualification - is this right? We are re-issuing current contracts and one of our older members of staff is unqualified and has no interest in doing a qualification. The Chair wants it in her contract that whilst she is able to do the role at the moment, she would not be employed now, I think this is a tad hard on the wording but she wants it in. Firstly, is this correct information? Secondly - any other word choices for the contract? Help! Thanks x

Hi everyone. I am the supervisor/manager of a charity-run pre-school that is being taken over by a private company at the start of the summer term this year. As many settings will know, it is becoming increasing difficult to find willing committee members so, when we were approached by a local company who were interested in taking us over, we agreed. They are a small company who only have 3 other pre-schools and the owner is a good friend of the previous supervisor, so we are very happy with the situation - they are also keeping on all of the current staff. We want the new owners to have the equipment, as all of the current children will be staying, but we understand th…

Online Banking

I want us to move to online banking, it'd make everyone's lives much easier. I've checked on the charities commission site and they are fine with this (they recommend dual authorisation). Does anyone have a bank that they can recommend? Our current bank refuses to convert our account, I've seen a co-op one online which looks good. Any other suggestions?

Staff pay in a pre-school

Hi all I would really appreciate some advice/guidance on staff pay in pre-schools related to qualifications. We have recently given all staff a pay rise and they are now in up-roar about it as they feel it is not enough. We have taken into consideration qualifications and roles. Is anyone able to tell me what they pay staff with: Level 3 qualification Level 4 Level 5/6 - foundation degree I would really appreciate it if you could share. Our pay for staff starts at £6.50 level 3 qualification and rises to £11.78 for the manager (who doesn't have a degree qualification).

I'm on the committee of a playgroup (children age 2-5 all in one open plan room) and we've had it brought to our attention by the staff about the hours they are paid for a full day/deductions that are made if they are off. A full working day for us is 8.45am-3.15pm (6.5hrs) with the children being in 9-3. However, it has come up that it was agreed two committee chairs (4+ years ago) that the staff would get paid for 7 hours as compensatory pay for not having a lunch if they did a full day. This discussion then naturally led to the fact that they are getting paid for over 6 hours work, so they are entitled to a 20 minute break... How do other settings manage this? We h…

Hi, Are there any other nurseries that run as a charity with a committee and PLA constitution? We have been told by a visitor from Local authority that we may not be running correctly in line with our constitution and need to look closely at what it says. Do other settings use internet banking as the PLA have advised us that this is not allowed? Now we are wondering if we should change our constitution and if so how and to what!! Any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated as I am getting very stressed about the whole thing now!!! Thanks

Do any committee run settings involve committee members in staff supervision sessions? We ve recently heard that this is necessary because they are ultimately responsible for the setting but I'm not sure about the idea - supervision should be a place for discussing individual children, possible concerns and reflecting on practise?
