Hi Is anyone registered as a Community Interest Group? Our playgroup is currently a registered charity but once again we are struggling to get parents to join our committee and so this is one of the solutions however not really sure where it would leave us staff standing.

What Sort Of Pre-School?
by Guest- 7 replies

Hoping for some help with this predicament:- My sister rang me last night to say that the manager of her pre-school is leaving and they don't know how they are going to appoint a new manager. There are 5 other staff and all want to apply, however, I can't fathom out how they operate. It's not a private business but its not a charity either. The manager is not the registered person. They are supposed to have a committee she told me but they haven't had a committee for at least 2 years so they just tick along without one. I did ask her whether they had a constitution such as the PLA one and if they got into debt, who would be held responsible. She has worked there about 8 …

Hi just wondering if anyone can answer "Do committee members need to be CRB checked?" I know if there are in direct contact they do but what if they only attend meetings?

I feel quite sad today - it is the last day of our indoor provision after 40 years and after today 1 member of staff will be made redundant. I have spent the last 4weeks sorting out our stuff to sell which has been quite upsetting - so many memories. We have had so little support from the village hall committee we have been told to get our stuff out of our shed by the end of the summer hols which gives us 6 weeks to get rid of everything . Feel very sad about thelack of support we have had from the commnity in general - parish council, church council, hall commitee! Its great that our FS will continue but I still feel so sad for the loss of our preschool, I wen…

HI Im the chair of a small village preschool and have been for the last 4 years. I just wanted to know if other small committee led pre-schools are struggling to survive at the moment? We have faced sustainability issues for the last 3 years and I honestly think we are reaching the point of no return. I have 3 different county advisors coming in the next 2 weeks, an emergency parents meeting and our numbers are crippling. The pre-school staff are very aware of how bad things are. The frustrating thing is the pre-school is offering the best provsion it ever has- we've got a good Ofsted, fantastic forest school, unprecedented links with the primary school, the provi…

Want To Distribute Assets
by Guest- 3 replies

Hi all Well as you know the Out of School Club will be taken over by school at the start of the summer hols (fingers crossed). This means that the committee dissolves and we have to decide what to do with the assets. We contacted the charity commission a while back to ask if the school could have it as they will taking on board all the staff etc and carrying it on. They said yes. Now some of the committee members have asked if we could give some money to other charities in the village ie the pre-school and the village hall (struggling for new heating and renovation). We thought this might be an idea and so I contacted the charity commission again. They have failed to res…

Unpopular Chair
by Guest- 9 replies

Hi, I'm sure this question is going to require a phone call to the pre-school learning alliance but would appreciate other forum comments. At the last AGM we had a new chair take over committee, she was in fact the only volunteer for the job. Since then she has become like a bull in a china shop in taking things over. She is now very unpopular with about 85% of the committee but the other 15% are in favour of her. She is treating the pre-school like her own business and completely undermining the work of some of the previous committee and staff. Obviously I am one of the ones who is anti- but am open minded enough to take advice and criticism on what we do about it. Is th…

I'm a director of my preschool as well a senior staff member; one of the other directors was the manager. I say was because she passed away 2 weeks ago. So now the rest of the directors are trying to sort out the masses of stuff we have to sort out... So I thought it could be worth having a thread of tips that could help committee members/trustees/directors know some of the stuff that's needed, stuff that would have helped us if we'd had it to hand... Charities Commission & Companies House - have the details of how you log onto their system, the log-in, password & security codes known to more than one person, have them written down clearly so you know…

Hi all Well meeting with Board of Gov last week about them taking on OOSC. They did say that it would be dependent on them getting the money that is currently in the bank to help them maintain club. So they are getting legal advice, we as committee asked the charity commission if the school could take the money as they were taking on the running of the club. I copied the charity commission our dissolution clause below Such a resolution may give instructions for the disposal of any assets held by or in the name of the Group but provided that if any property remains after the satisfaction of all debts and liabilities, such property shall not be paid or distributed…
