Another question........ If a member of staff has attended a college course where they have received full funding, but the setting has paid the registration fee, do you ask them to sign anything to say that if they leave within a certain time that they have to pay the registration fee back?? If this is common practice is it put into the staff handbook, contract, policies etc. Thanks in advance.

One of our staff is off after losing her mom two weeks ago. She was going to come back today but felt she cant. Thats fine, we can cover, but I dont know how long we should pay her for, this is the 3rd week. It sounds mercenary but I need to let her know if she'll be paid from now onwards. Just found most recent contract...Compassionate leave is based on individual needs and pay is at the discretion of the committee.

We have had an application from someone with an NVQ in homebased childcare (and a PGCE in secondary teaching), for a senior postion in our nursery. Does anyone know whether this would be valid in a nursery setting. She also has many years of childcare experience.

I havent seen any reference to this site anywhere so just wondered if anyone knows about it. I've had a quick look and it does look as if it could be a handy tool for committee members. Its free to join unless you wan the #'plus' version which gives access to legal people, £40 per year unless you have a turn over of less than £0,000 then its £20 per year. I havent joined yet, still thinking about it, but it has a forum that might be able to give help when we need it. I know at times I've struggled with committee things, especially when I find out the answer to the things before I knew there was a question!! Trustee network Edited to say theres also a link to the S…

I work at a charity run pre-school who are under the PSLA constitution. As far as I am aware the committee are still running under the old PLA constitution. My question is we have a committee member who is secretary and now wants to take on the role of administrator with pay and still be secretary. The committee member is also a trustee. A member of the committee has told us that they have gone to the charity commission, not the PSLA, for permission for this to happen. Is this correct or should we contact the PSLA? A quick look at the Charity Commission website indicates that no one can be a trustee and a paid member of staff. Many thanks in advance for any advi…

Hi all What do you do when there are problems between committee members. Its school club where I am on committee. We did a parent questionnaire got 47% back so very good. Very good results back. But its that old chestnut of what do you least like about club? Majority 21% bookings not guaranteed 18% said nothing 12% bookings not flexible enough When asked how would you suggest club could be improved bookings and being guaranteed a place was 6% (2 parents) Best bit..84% said they would not go on the committee as they had other commitments. Bookings system is as follows: Done on monthly basis, those users that have been using the club the longest get pr…

Hi Just wondered how you go about advertising your AGM? Do you put up a poster where interested parents can put their names down if they are interested in a particular position eg chair? or do you just advertise the meeting? Am i being too hopeful??!
