Following on from my other thread I thought you might like the list of organisations the chap at the Charity commission sent me. I havent had time to look at any of them, but they can all help with recruiting committee members. "You may find our guidance on appointment of trustees which is available on our website helpful. I have enclosed a link to this guidance below: http://www.charitycommission.gov.uk/Publications/cc30.aspx In addition a number of organisations maintain registers of potential trustees, or offer a trustee brokerage service, matching potential trustees with vacancies on the boards of charities. The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NC…

Hello all my knowledgeable FS buddies Can anybody tell me if they have an administrator? What they do? and how much they are paid? The reason I ask is that 4 years ago we had an administrator (whom had been chair) and we nearly closed because we were nearly bankrupt! Administrator kept upping her hours until she was doing more hours than some of our key persons and getting paid more! Now our current chair wants to step down as chair and become our administrator, I am getting a feeling of dejavue! God knows we need one, simply because I work every hour under the sun doing paperwork; policies, funding, newsletters, fees, admissions etc etc ............... g…

Hi there, Never posted on here before-just wondering if anyone can offer any advice on responsibilites that commitee members of pre-schools have? We are in the process of starting a small committee run pre-school, and while ofsted are very clear about the role of the nominated person, they are less clear about what the roles and legal responibilies are of the other members. My (limited) knowledge of this- and i may well be wrong- is that the commitee as a group are responsible in law for the provision, and that the nominated person is responsible for ensuring that the manager is competent in their role, but do the other commitee members have any legal duties to carry…

Hi all, I wonder if someone can help. If a pre-school was to close and had insufficient assets to cover redundancy payments... are the committee members still personally responsible. I had thought this had changed but I can't find any information about it - the PSLA constitution doesn't make it clear what would happen if there weren't any/insufficient funds left after debts were cleared. Does anyone know where I can read more? Many thanks,

by Guest- 8 replies

Hi, Have been discussing recently how to improve our staff/ parent communication. It seems to be a problem that we are not doing enough, and I wondered how other pre-schools involve parents. we have a newsletter once a term, and try to do at least one fundraising activity a term to which parents can come along. Thats all committee lead. We don't have any diaries or comments books. Should we?Are they useful/hard work. Would appreciate any ideas or advice. Thanks

Hi all Has anybody had any thoughts as to how much you are going to raise your fees for September? We usually have an increase of £1 per 2 1/2 hour session, but as we are going upto 3 hours this will obviously need to be more. To actually cover our staff wages bill we need to raise it by £3.50 per session!!! a lot to do with the fact that we are still playing catch up from a few years back when funding was good, so fees weren't raised
