Hi All, I wondered if anyone else had compiled a healthy eating questionnaire - I have been advised it would be a good idea to help towards our Healthy Eating Award but I don't know where to start. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Bit of a rant coming, sorry! We've just had our Xmas Fair this morning, during what would have been session time. Despite me saying to the fund raising committee that this should not happen in a session and should be on a Saturday, they ignored me and went ahead anyway. I have various issues with this - it looks unprofessional, it makes things tricky for parents like me who rely on the childcare to work, in theory we presumably should tell the LEA that we're not in session that day (they don't mention it), also I'd imagine there are insurance implications. It also means that some dads who might attend will miss out because they're working, plus we don't get any …

Who manages yours? Is it the Committee or the Leader? Also how do you allocate your places, we seem to change ours every year because of some issue or another! We currently have 1) Sibling in playgroup 2) Oldest on the waiting list This is now causing problems as people who live in our village are quite low on the criteria against some people who are 5 miles away! I agree with the locals that it isn't fair that they can't get in to their local playgroup.

Just finished AGM (record speed - less than half an hour) and we now have 2 new secretaries doing a job share and a new treasurer. My arm twisting techniques worked a treat! Hurrah!!

Agm Advice Please 1 2

Hi all, As Chair I've got to run our AGM in a couple of weeks time. It's not something that I've done before in my professional life, and I was just after some advice about how to run it and what to include. We need to adopt the new PSLA constitution so will do that, then 2 people are stepping down and I needed to be officially voted onto the committee. I'd like to do a vote of thanks to the staff, but beyond that I can't think what else I should be covering. (Apart from doing a bit of begging for new committee members, but that's a separate issue.) We have an hour and there are quite a few parents planning to attend, so I'd be grateful for any input. A…

Hello! It's coming up to AGM time and we're eagerly anticipating the deluge of parents who can't wait to join committee - ho ho ho! We're considering askign them to fill out an application form. We want to know that people standing for election are doing so for the right reasons (what they hope to give to the commitee and also what they hope to achieve personally) and also we want to find out a bit more about them and their skills. We also think it would be a more professional approach. We're wondering whether we should follow the same process as we do for a volunteer who would work with the children i.e. application form with education and employment history alon…

Committee Chairperson's blues...

As if our leader going 3 weeks before the end of term, not doing everything she said she had, and then having to advertise twice for a replacement wasn't enough!! The new leader, who had accepted the job both verbally and in writing, had been sent a contract, EY2 and job description and who I had done an employee pack and policies and procedures for, emailed me today. She has changed her mind I am not paid for this! Please, please don't let the next person on the list change her mind!

Paying For Aspects Of Treasurer Role
by Guest- 8 replies

This is a little bit complicated so please bear with me. Our treasurer is about to stand down (her daughter has moved on to school). We were hoping that someone else would step into the breach, but she is now saying that her work situation means she can't help us. She has said that she could possibly take on aspects of the role if we were able to pay her (this would be technical stuff such as preparing accounts). Does anyone know if this is okay? We are in theory on the PSLA constitution although we haven't adopted the new one yet. I'm a little bit uncomfy about paying someone who is closely linked to the pre-school to do this stuff, as it might mean that in f…

I've worked with committees for around 8 years, so I am usually able to see the need when people want to rant about them. But boy oh boy, now the shoe is firmly on the other foot and I see things from a completly different angle. Over the past few days I have sorted through 4 boxes of paperwork given to me by the last chair and treasure, some good to keep, some is in the bin, and some is missing. Our committee now consists of myself and the secretary so I've drafted a letter to give out at the very start of term expressing my regret that I will have to close the playgroup if no-one signs up with us. I am trying to work out a budget with not even any idea of the cur…

Magic Software!
by Guest- 17 replies

Hello everyone, We're hoping to find some magic software that will help us cut down on the time we spend on administration. Basically we need to manage the children's contact details etc, admissions, staffing, fees (in particular for it to flag automatically when someone needs to pay, and then generate an invoice), communications and probably lots of other things we've not even thought about! And of course, we've not much money to spend! The PLA have recommended EY Essential http://www.ey-essential.com/. Does anyone have any experience of this? does it do the job? If anyone has any recommendations or advice about what's good or what to avoid we'd be v. gra…
