Awards For All

Has anyone been successful in a bid for lottery funding? I know our secretary has tried previously but I think she went for a wish list approach. From what I can gather, you need a project in mind to be funded. I have a couple of ideas that we've talked about previously and which I'd love to get funding for. One is a big project (probably the max 10k) another a smaller one (probably about 1.5k). We are not in a deprived area, just a small rural community. Does anyone have any top tips or advice for me? Is it worth the time invested in making the application, i.e. what are the chances of succeeding? Thanks in advance.

what if the setting went backrupt or a parent sued for some reason - would the management committee members all be individually liable? can they take out insurance to cover for this? or is this where registering as a charity would protect them? thanks, A

To those of you in sessional pre-school/playgroups this may seem like a silly question, but does your leader really pull the staff together, advise on what the assistants should be doing, deal with the parents, committee etc Can you really tell who is the leader when you walk into your setting? Or Is it a joint effort with everyone involved with everything that's going on, and no 1 person seems to be above another? Can you tell there maybe something not quite right!!!!!!!!

Monitoring Committee Actions
by Guest- 5 replies

Hello all, Realise I'm probably overdoing the posting on my first day but want to catch you all before you disappear on hols! I'm after nuggets of advice again. We have a great commitee but sometimes we (I'm one of the worst offenders )forget what we've promised to do, then fail to do it, then promise again at the next meeting....etc, etc.... Anyone got any tips for how to keep on top of who's in charge of which action and whether it's been done? I guess we would really like some sort of online method of monitoring the status of actions. Thanks! TFAC

Running An Auction
by Guest- 3 replies

Hi, I'm after some advice on setting up an auction to fund raise, like Hali described in the previous thread. I thought I might get more responses if I started a new post. Can anyone advise me as to how you do it? Do you draw up a list and pass it around, or is it done online or something, or all on one day like an antiques type auction? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Incomings And Outgoings

I've just received an updated set of accounts from our treasurer (I'm chair). I've not been doing the post of chair long, and I'm not good at figures, but from what I can gather our monthly wage costs are more than our termly income from fees. Now this can't be right or sustainable for that matter. Presumably in a normal year quite a bit of what we fund raise goes towards paying wages and rent, but that doesn't seem right, as surely it should go on 'extras'. Do other settings struggle to cover wages from fees alone? I can't see that we're over staffed. Okay we could cut down the staffing a bit and still be in ratio, but I really wouldn't want to do that. I…

Does anyone know whether Ofsted have to interview the chair and manager of settings previous to the official inspection? Seems our C'ttee have had a call and are having a visit in a couple of weeks, is this ordinary? Thank you

Aims For Your Setting
by Guest- 8 replies

If there were 3 wishes you could have for your setting, what would they be? Mine are: Short term - to find a good new member of staff to supplement our team. Medium term - to get a few goods and preferably at least one outstanding on our next Ofsted. Long term - to turn our car park into an extension of our new garden area. I can dream!
