Please could some kind person help me out! I am now the chair of our preschool committee. We have a signed 2011 constitution but I am unsure if it has to be re-signed each year at the AGM or just available to view and acknowledged in minutes! Thanks

Hello All As we all know there is so much responsibility on the Management Committee that it puts parents off. I am wondering if anyone has a less formal sub commitee. So parents can get invovled with maintenance, fundraising etc but are not actually the company named directors/trustees etc. They could still attend some meetings but not have a vote or make final decisions. We currently have a committee of 7 all registered as directors etc. We are losing 2 members so will be at our minimum of 5 come the AGM. Out of those 5, 3 of us do most of the official work. Parents are not always keen on being a named director of the company or having a personal credi…

Hello All I've made several posts on the forum during the past year I have been chair at our pre school. Our AGM is fast approaching and I am unsure if I want to stand again. Long story short it's been a tough year, two members of staff have left, leading to us having to recruit. I led this predominantly alone, with little experience. Then there have been issues with the Manager and their relations with staff, something that is improving over time but will need alot of work to change her ways. More recently an incident that involves an Ofsted visit (they were happy with how we dealt with things thankfully) All in all its been a long year, I've bee…

Hello Everyone I have been offered a job as a Pre-school Manager within a committee run setting. Still not 100% sure on who has what responsibilities. I am having a 2 week handover period with the current manager and would like some advice on what I should aim to achieve by the end of the handover. Plus, what I can do to establish myself as the new manager, feedback for changes, setting an action plan etc Do I need to review job descriptions? Policies? Shall I observe staff and give feedback? No idea where to start!

Hi all, we are a committee run preschool and currently we have a business account with santander to do our banking, however this is becoming a problem as we can only have one signatory if we want full online access. Can i ask what accounts/banks other settings use and their experience with them Many Thanks

Hello Brief intro. I am chair of a pre school. Committee run. Charity/Limites by guarantee company. Small setting with manager, deputy and four other part time staff. Our manager (employed by the committee) has worked within the setting over 20 years (when it was first a playgroup) and I have great respect for her and what she knows. As a parent I am not entirely clued up on the EYFS framework but have been looking into it to gain a better understanding. I'm just wondering really what my relationship should be like with the manager, obviously I see her every time I drop my children off and I always ask if all is ok, anything she needs from me. She usually…

Hi. We are a Committee run setting within a primary school and the school are saying that we should have walk up changing unit for changing our children (after a walk around school health and safety check was done). There is no room for one in the toilet area of our room (we currently change on a mat on the floor which all staff are happy to do) so it would have to be put in a disabled toilet that is in another part of the school, leaving ratio issues in the room. The health and safety issue raised was for staff and their backs while changing children. We don't take children under two and a half so there is not an ongoing stream of children needing to be changed and we fe…

Hi All I am new to my current setting having taken over as Manager at Easter. I am now on the committee and nominated person. We are working under the 2011 PLA constitution. Does anyone know if I am 'allowed' to be a signature on the bank account as I am a paid employee. Obviously I wouldn't be signing my own cheque!

Hello All I've got it in my head that we will be inspected soon. Last inspection was early 2015. As the Committee Chair I am also the Nominated Person with Ofsted (I sent my EY2 but didn't have the suitable person interview) What would be expected of me during an inspection. Recruitment: I think we have covered. We have a Safer Recruitment Policy and have recently recruited so have got references, copies of necessary qualifications etc) Safeguarding: I have recently reviewed the Policy. Understand the procedures etc I have read all our policies etc so know to look to them if needed? Anything else I should be aware of? Thanks

Our chair has resigned with immediate effect, we have a board member who is temporarily able to do it but they need a suitable person and I know they won't be able to do this interview with their work commitments. I've offered to do it but I said they need to check constitution first. It all seems like an oh yeah we will sort it type thing with no rush but I'm in panic mode! How long do you get to nominate and get someone to start the process of becoming chair? Anyone been through this (I know a good few will have) where your just left without a chair. I've informed the committee that the chair must notify Ofsted indenpendently that they have resigned as we can not do …
