Can anyone help me? We are a community playgroup with a committee made up of parents and other coopted member and myself as manager. The Psla constitution was changed to allow the manager of groups like mine who have kept them going for years. We run to the psla constitution. A member of staff has asked where the staff's voice on the committee is and there should be another staff on committee. Yes?No? I cannot see in the constitution where it says this

We are an incorporated Ltd company run as a charity, with a management sub committee and have Articles Of Association. Within these it states any changes to our Articles must be agreed by the PLSA. We want to move away from the PLSA as we are struggling to maintain a Committee, is there any way of getting rid of the PLSA???

Hello Can I ask how many of you have adopted risk management policies for your charitable settings. (Not risk assessments) I believe this policy is suggested as good practice from the charity commission along with some others such as vulnerable beneficiaries, conflict of interest etc (there is a tick box on the annual return asking if you have these in place). I've been looking into putting one together for our setting but struggling as the manager is not sure how we should word it etc. Thanks C

I've just read this interesting article about getting the most out of being a school governor - it seemed to me that much of the advice could be usefully transferred to committee members. I thought that perhaps someone might be able to update the information with links etc that were pertinent to committee run provisions, rather than school. If anyone wants to have a go at re writing it we could put it in the resources for others to use... Here's the original article: Tips for governors ...and here is a word copy of the article in case anyone fancied having a go at making it 'committee relevant' if you need help email me: rebecca@eyfs.info Governors article for ed…

Hi - Does anyone have an up-to-date step by step guide for what Committee members need to do to join a Committee. Ousr have been doing their DBS and EY2 but at our recent Ofsted Inspection a few of them were not listed on our registration form. What are we missing? Is it the DBS update service? It's such a minefield and it seems to keep changing! Many thanks

I am updating all our policies at the moment and I have always signed them. Would Ofsted frown on this? In the past they haven't but before I sign them all I wanted to check as we will be due a visit from them this year. I am the Leader and we are committee run - (which means I do everything lol)!

Hello All Recently elected as new chair. Both myself and the previous chair have spent time debating who within our company would be Persons with a significant Control as a register declairing this is required for Companies House. So far we haven't been able to get to an answer. Companies House cannot tell us but state we must declare anyone that has significant control over the company (duh we get that) Our provision is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. We have a management committee whom ALL form the registered person and carry the same responsibility. The only time perhaps could be if there is a tied vote then the chair would get a f…

Staff Salaries

Hi everyone We are debating about changing the pay for our administrator from an hourly rate to salaried. We are also thinking of changing the way we pay the Supervisor/Manager (who is also paid on an hourly rate) The Supervisor is putting in a lot of extra hours after she goes home (planning and other admin tasks as you are all well aware of), but she doesn't tend to put a lot of those hours on her timesheet, so we are thinking about changing that portion of her work (i.e. work not done at the actual setting) to salary. I'm not sure how this will work or how much the salary should be at the moment, so was wondering if anyone else pays any of their Administrator …

We are a committee run pre-school and like a lot of us really struggle to get committee members. We currently have three but two are leaving as their children have now gone to school. We have a fab chair, who is the retired EYFS teacher and is a good support, but due to personal circumstances is going to have to step back for the next term. To be honest I think that she will probably end up stepping down. My problem is that our committee never understand what they are responsible for, they would run a mile if they did. At the end of the day they do a great job fundraising and that is it. I am interested in what other options are out there, as how we could run? I wo…

Hi all, I'm sure this was discussed when it hit the headlines a few months ago and I've had a quick trawl of the forum, but need clarification on this. We employed someone earlier this year who had their Level 2 and was nearly finished their Level 3 (we employed her to replace a L3 member of staff) If I remember correctly, she told us at the time that she was also resitting GCSE Maths and English. Then all the stuff kicked off about not being included in ratios if you didn't have GCSE Maths and English, and then some of it got retracted etc etc.... Today (our first day back) it has been brought to our attention by the powers of facebook and not the member of …
