Other than the three you need to have:- Chair, Treasurer, Secretary what other roles do you have? We used to have a Health and Safety Officer who used to do a termly check on the whole setting but this seems to have gone by the by and I am wondering if we still need one. At the moment I am trying to do it but along with everything else this has been pushed to the back on my need to do list. I know committee members are hard to get and keep so wondered if you were lucky enough to have a full compliment or just muddled along with the main three and a couple more?

Help Pre-School Relocation

Hi, I'm joint supervisor at a charity committee run pack away pre-school operating from the village hall 4 mornings a week. Our numbers are going to be very low in September (8 Children), we have advertised, held open days etc etc., As staff we feel the only thing we can do is cut hours/staffing with the hope that we can raise them again if numbers go up. Our committee have decided that they want us to relocate within the village to a small football pavilion in the playing field as the rent is cheaper and we could open five days a week. The staff feel the new location is wholly unsuitable as it is v small and has no fenced off safe area for the children - we feel…

Hi I know this has been discussed a lot... but I still seem confused after reading a lot of threads. I have become a committee member to remain the nominated person. I have a very old CRB (2005) check. Do I have to do a DBS now, and a health certificate? Also we have a new member joining the committee who is a childminder. I know she will need a DBS but is this done on the Ofsted website for committee members? Thanks

Hello, We're currently reviewing our policies for paying staff who undertake Senco duties or act as lead for Safeguarding, and I'm curious as to what other settings do. At the moment our Deputy Supervisor is our safeguarding lead but she doesn't get any additional pay for this, whereas our 2 SENCOs are level 3 assistants and are paid an additional £11.41 per week. However we have quite a few children with safeguarding issues and we are looking at having a level 3 as deputy safeguarding lead after undergoing additional training. Thanks

My 3rd committee chair in 2 years has resigned tonight citing that she didn't understand the extent of the role. I'm the manager but not on the committee. Is it possibke for me to be on the committee and nominated person and manager? I just want to try to end this cycle of people who dont really fully understand the role trying to do it for a few months and then giving up! I have such trouble getting through to Ofsted when I call, but I'm going to give it a go tomorrow. Any advice much appreciated!

Notice Period

Hiya, I just wondered what notice period you have in your contracts for staff? Ours currently say 6 weeks, but it doesn't take into account holiday periods and as proven recently it was impossible to find a replacement and have all checks etc done in time for the leaving date of member of staff.

Do you have an information sheet that you give to new committee members that clearly sets out their responsibilities? We have always given general information on the roles of Chair etc, but it doesn't really fully explain their responsibilities I don't think. I'm slightly concerned that it might make anyone considering the job run for the hills as fast as their little legs will carry them, but equally, I think it's important that they know what they are letting themselves in for. If you have something you are willing to share that would be brilliant!

Committee member becoming staff
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi everyone, I wondered if anyone knew if a committee member (Secretary) could become a member of staff and still remain on the committee? Our secretary is keen to become bank staff and be on call for cover when needed, without being a permanent member of staff, but is happy to remain as secretary at least until our AGM in October, does anyone know if that is permitted? We work to the PLA 2011 constitution.

We are raising funds that will enable us to purchase a self contained building. Our current premises are no longer suitable. We have applied to the national lottery. Does anybody have any experience in this and can advise on other places to approach. Many Thanks
