I just noticed on Twitter that Woman's Hour is looking for men who work in childcare (or indeed to parents whose children attend childcare provision where there are male practitioners). No more information than that, but if you have a point of view it might be worth contacting the production team. The link to the 'Contact Us' page is here. Or if you're on twitter and don't follow them, their username is BBCWomansHour.

Sarah Teather Men In Early Years 1 2

I have just read the article in Nursery World 14-27 June 2011 regarding the EYPS. At the National Day Nursery Association’s Annual Conference, Ms Sarah Teather, who is the Early Years Minister said “the status (EYPS) could be raised if a few more men were involved”. Do others find this remark offensive and insulting to the women who work in the Early Years profession. Saying that the profession is need of more men on board so that the women in their jobs can get the pay, conditions and status that they deserve!!! I have been a inner city preschool Leader and SENCO for 8 years now, I have no pension, no sick pay, I am on minimum wage, no overtime or big BONUS…

Hi, Im new to threading and not sure if Im doing it right... But... I am about to start my 3rd year BA Childhood Studies (Early Years) and the dreaded dissertation! I would like to research the experiences of the male early childhood carer and need some men who work in this role to maybe offer up their experiences. I would like to know what influenced you to choose a career in childcare, what role and qualifications you have and how long you have been doing it? Also if poss. your experiences from peers, family, colleauges, parents and the children themselves. If there are any women practitioners who have an opinion on the male ECC, I would love to hear your per…

Dissertation

[/size Hello, I am currently trying to decide what to focus on for my dissertation. I am writing it around Early Years and i am interested in Play and the transitition between the EYFS and Reception, however i am not quite sure how to incorporate this into a dissertation question that i could answer. I am also interested in the gender stereotypes and the lack of male practitioners in the Early years settings however i have found very little information on this topic and although it interests me i feel it may be hard to research. I am wondering if anyone here has any suggestions or think either of those are good ideas to follow? Thank You Natalie

Just wanted to run this by you all. I have been approached by a couple who are going through the adoption process and it was suggested to them that as they have had no regular contact with young children, they should ask about volunteering with us. I thought that it was a brilliant idea as did all the staff. They both paid a visit today to have a chat and to spend some time to see if they would like to do this and also to pick up the CRB forms. The response by the children was very encouraging and they all asked when the man was coming again. I will be informing our chairman obviously but what do you all think about how to inform the parents? Do I send a note home in ev…
