Imaginary Friends

My little girl (3 and a half) has an imaginary friend and it's not something I've come across before, so I'm not sure what I'm best to do (if anything). I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this? There's a rich story involved with this friend, who lives in France in a pink house and has a whole family of her own. I'm assuming it's a sign of an active (over active?!) imagination. But when she talks about it, should I pretend that I 'believe' what she's saying? Should I join in the story? Or should I talk about how it is her imagination creating this? She seems to completely believe in what she's telling me, I asked her questions about it yesterday an…

One of my staff members is also a childminder and is currently studying for a NVQ Level 3 'Home-based Childcare' (hope I've got the title right - possibly not!). Anyway..... long story, short .......I am trying to give her as much 'help' as I can with this ....... when she has finished this course - she will begin DPP......which will be of much more 'use' to me! She rang this morning to ask........"what do you know about 'scaffolding learning' - the tutor didn't know what it meant. WHAT!!!!! What hope is there really - I am seriously shocked that a'tutor' did not have a basic understanding of child development. Sunnyday

You may have to sit down for this but apparently a study has been done in which scientists worked out that.... wait for it....... 'A good night's sleep could reduce hyperactivity and bad behaviour among children.' Finish scientists discovered this after examining 280 children. They could have saved a load of time and money and just spent the day in my Pre School room .

Hi - would really like some help/opinions on this one......... I have a four year old boy in my setting who has some behaviour problems. He is extremely bright and can be very sweet .......sometimes! I have been out of the setting on training today (complete waste of time - but that's another story). As soon as I got home I rang my deputy to see how the day had gone - her first comment was xxxxxx was so poorly behaved again, but guess what he had been watching Star Wars immediately before coming in (again) - this child is completely obsessed with Star Wars and it directly impacts on his behaviour - all paintings, models, drawings based on Star Wars - play is shoot…

I have a child in Reception who refuses to speak to adults but is fine with the other children. She has had a difficult background, so obviously this will contribute. She does as she is told and talks all the time at home, but now that she has been in my class for over a term and still not answeriing the register, it is concerning. She won't come out during carpet session not even to do something on the interactive whiteboard yet she is very confident with the other childre. It is difficult to collect evidence for her profile, and the only thing I can think to do is ask her parents to come in and hear her wordboxes, and do some of the profile tasks with her. It is …

We have a child in the school who uses both hands. Her mother has asked us to ensure that she uses her right hand which leads me to wonder whether this child is not actually a left-handed child. As far as I am aware, "persuading" a left handed child to use her right hand will hinder development. Anyone have any expertise here? Or any links? TVM

Morning! Firstly I must apologise for talking about this on the last day of term but unfortunately it can't be helped. Last night I had parents evening where a mum spoke about her little girl in my class Emma who worries about everything, this is apparant in school with her worrying about going to assembly, performing and she gets very nervous about blood. Her mum asked how we could overcome this because she is even waking up in the night crying because she is so worried about anything and everything. Now mum has just found out that her grandad has cancer and is not going to last long unfortunately. Grandad is Emma's best friend and mum does not know how to appro…

Hi i wonder if anyone can help . I care for a little boy of 3 years and during the holidays i also care for his older brother who s 6 Both boys are well adjusted, well behaved bright boys . Both of them are lovely ,though both can some times be what could be described as sometimes "a bit in your face" the older one particularly will often try and answer for the younger one when you ask him a question(the younger one is more than capable of answering for himself) I ve noticed the last few times I ve had him he s very prone to telling " tall tales" about where he s been what he s been up to etc Last week it was about rescuing people from the water with his dad-he …
