I heard about this sometime ago, but today via Twitter I got this link to the Literacy Trust website where they are talking about the fact that the Government has 'banned' the use of the phrase Every Child Matters. It is also going back to referring to child protection rather than safeguarding. When thinking about the language we use, I do have some pet hates, like referring to 'hard to reach families' which to my mind makes it seem as if it is their fault and not ours that they don't access the services we offer. However, I'm not sure it matters what language we use in this instance, so long as the commitments remain the same. What do you think?

Dear all Here is the first edition of a new newsletter from The Strategic Partnership. The Strategic Partnership is designed to bring the early years and childcare sector together to improve quality, influence government policy and promote best practice. Anyway if you are …

Today the Children’s Minister Tim Loughton has outlined the changes in a letter to all schools, Directors of Children’s Services and early years’ providers Children’s Minister Tim Loughton said: Today’s response is the first stage of a journey which will fundamentally change the child protection system – we’re not just tinkering at the edges and fixing short term problems. We are freeing hardworking social workers and other professionals from structures, procedures and rulebooks so they can do their best for vulnerable children and their families. something to look out for..

Our website is nearly built. I now need to fill the news section with 5 news stories, locally and nationally (England). We work with childminders but would be discussing Early Years in general. I have some ideas but don't want to prejudice the discussion so won't share them yet. So any suggestions of what i can put on would be great C

Hello all I am thinking I am really missing something here with Mr Goves latest suggestions. Here is a link to the BBC piece Worst-performing primaries in England become academies The sentence that I don't understand is; The new academies, taken out of local authority control, will be run by more successful local schools. If the school is run by another LA does the failing school then get access to the advisory staff and training offered by the LA thus stretching their probably already limited funds even thinner. …

Isn't it funny how these consultations have habit of popping up when people take their eye off the ball eg holiday! Anyway, in case we haven't yet mentioned it here, the Consultation on School Funding Reform is available from now until May 25th only. It could easily be missed by the early years sector thinking that the review only refers to school. Section 8 is about the EYSFF, so worth having a look and having your day.
