I recently requested the role of head of our nursery unit. Both the head of school and head of pre prep are supportive and think in principle it's a good idea. However, they have asked me to consider instead becomming the foundation stage co-ordinator responsible for both the nursery unit and the 2 reception classes. I am considering this but would appreciate any advice on the role of the FSC as we have not had such a postition in our school before. Looking forward to hearing from all those FS coordinators out there

The 2006 Code of Practice for provision of free nursery education for 3 - 5 year olds is now available - you can read/download it here. Haven't had time to read it yet, but it's usually worth looking over as it gives guidance to LEAs on the way they should allocate their funding. Comes into effect from April 1st.

Hi Found this quite interesting when I flicked through it last night. This is written for inspectors showing how and what to inspect. Thought others might find it useful especially if like us you are anticipating an inspection in the next year. They do come round quickly don't they! http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/publications/inde...summary&id=4140 Deb

I didnt quite catch the news this evening, but did I hear that the Govenment plan for every child to have a nursery place? The reporter was in a nursery in London and was speaking to a minster I think. Did anyone say how it would be funded and where they will get the staff from or when it is supposed to be implemented, and what age group they are aiming at? The youngsters I have seen entering childcare recently are there because the schools dont know what else to advice them to do. I dont know how the Government hope to make something like this work if the people in the job are earning little over minimum wage, what exactly do they expect the level of motivation and commi…

Hi all - Thought you might like to read the DfES press release summarising the latest research on the benefits of good quality nursery education. To quote the article: "... For the first time research has definitively shown that those children who enjoy access to nursery education before school age demonstrate better attainment at school at the age of seven. Specifically, children with experience of pre-school education demonstrate significantly higher attainment in KS1 national assessments in Mathematics and English compared with children who have no experience of pre-school education. Moreover, starting early – from the age of two upwards – together with higher…
