Friday 4th June welcomes the start of the Appleby Horse Fair, dating back many hundreds of years and steeped in tradition, a place for Gypsy families to meet old friends, for young people to marry or find a husband, to buy a horse, to lose on the trotting races. The fair is held on Gallows Hill and starts Friday, it continues until tuesday unless the weather is wet and then the field turns into glutenous mud, you put your foot in and it comes out minus boot. Gypsy children are on holiday and are totally at ease with their own world around them, anyone who is lucky enough to visit should take notice how many parents they see physically chastising their children - t…

Hi - The newly constituted International Froebel Society and the School of Education Studies at the University of Surrey Roehampton have asked me to publicize their first Froebelian conference, details below: Froebel in the Twenty First Century: challenges and uncertainties 1st – 3rd July 2004 The conference seeks to address the questions of what Froebel means in the Twenty First Century in terms of a distinctive philosophy and a practice of education. Hi all - For those of you who never look at the front page, I was asked to publicize a couple of job vacancies working with the LEA/School Improvement Service in West Sussex. You can find the details here, or download a Word document from this post. Never done this before, so it would be useful to hear whether people find it useful. EYDCPApp.doc

Is anyone going to the Birmingham Education Show. Our school staff are going on Saturday as INSET. We are going to spend our ICT money and I'm off to get some new software and hopefully a thing called a pixie. Anyone using one of these? I'm also hoping that I might be able to get hold of a copy of The Thinking Child's Resource book without having to wait weeks to get it from Amazon.

Hi - I just wanted to post a warning in case there are other nurseries, pre-schools etc out there getting letters purporting to be warning letters about Data Protection. They may mention Final Warnings, Enforcement Sections, Urgent Notices, and other scary sounding stuff They will be apparently demanding fees of around £95 for registering you - assuming that you have any personal data on any of your PC's. They are crooks, and you should just ignore them! If they come to your door, you should call the police. Please see this link through to the genuine website of the data protection information commissioner, and the warning they have issued regarding t…
