Following the consultation "Eligibility for free school meals, the early years pupil premium and the free early education entitlement for two-year-olds under Universal Credit" the government have released their response. The proposals that they are taking forward include: introducing a net earnings threshold of £7,400 per annum for free school meals eligibility under Universal Credit, to take effect from 1 April 2018. A typical family earning around £7,400 per annum would, depending on their exact circumstances, have a total household income of between £18,000 and £24,000 once benefits are taken into account mirroring this eligibility criteria for the early …

Ceeda is a private sector research agency specialising in early years research. They have carried out research into the state of the sector using data gathered from 800 childcare providers including 245 childminders and 555 nurseries and pre-schools in the period November to December 2017. The DfE have updated the EYFS qualification list today and have updated the pre-September 2014 spreadsheet with information about joint degrees and joint honours degrees. Hopefully you will find it helpful. EYFS staff:child ratios - DfE approved qualifications. Yesterday, the Dept of Health and Public Health England, in conjunction with Action for Children, published guidelines for early years settings to support them in the development of their menus for children under 5. The guidelines are voluntary but meet the food and nutrition requirements contained in the Statutory Framework. Today, Amanda Spielman (Ofsted's Chief Inspector) spoke at the Nursery World Business Summit in London. FSF were there, listening to and learning from, what she had to say. Nursery World magazine is reporting that some trainees are signing up for online Level 3 qualifications, believing them to be 'full and relevant'. In fact some online qualifications are purely knowledge based, require no practical experience and as a consequence are neither 'full' nor 'relevant'. Some trainees are applying for positions requiring a Level 3 qualification believing they are eligible, and some employers are being caught out.
