Birmingham Council recently sent a reminder to everyone via email regarding the free entitlement and what isnt allowed. 2.1.10 Providers must not charge for other services in relation to the early education entitlement such as a registration fee or uniform. I asked them to clarify, that as a private business we can make a charge for any uniform should the parents be happy to buy it. This is the response, Thank you for your email. Please refer to the EEE Terms and Conditions page 5 section 2.1.10 where it does state that “no charge can be made for other services in relation to the early education entitlement such as a registration fee or uniform” Have i m…

Hi - i am just working out my term dates for September. Can i ask when you work out your term dates for the 38 weeks, if a bank holiday falls in a week, like Easter next year (Fri 25th March) do you add an extra day on another week. I know we have to be open for 38 weeks, but as some weeks are only 4 day weeks because of bank hols, we are not giving the 195 days which would be the full 38 weeks if we don't add on the extra missed days for bank hols. What do you do?

Hi all I just wanted to know what you maybe planning to spend your Early years Pupil Premium on other than staffing. I am particularly interested in ideas from those that work in a maintained nursery class as part of a school. However, I would equally be happy to have ideas from all. My head was asking if I had heard from any other settings regarding this issue so just thought I would ask here.

Found this on the BBC news website: "According to figures provided by the DfE, the average cost of providing free childcare places per hour is £4.47. The government provides £4.51 per hour for each three-and-four year old on the scheme,"

Hello, I would really appreciate any views on this topic. We have some parents who only want to use 10hrs of funding with us for their 3yr olds. This is difficult as we obviously need to do the same amount of paperwork for all the children - but this is financially difficult as we need to take on even more children to fill places - which in turn leads to more paperwork. Does anyone else have this problem or say that parents have to do at least the full free 15hrs? Thank you!

Hi. Just wondered if your lea allow parents to use part of their funding for a lunch hour so parents can chose to either collect their child at the end of three hours or they can stay for another hour. Then children can either bring a packed lunch or chose to pay extra for a hot dinner. Or do they insist that the three hour session is funded and that to do the lunch club we should charge for the hour and the food provided. We do offer the full 15 hrs as 5 Lots of 3 hrs. Im getting confusedby it all and flexibility etc.

I know why I want to stay away from any more funding, but I need to have facts for and against so i can be objective. Our deputy keeps being asked to ask about it by the local CC, she's friends with the manager there and is really only seeing the good side, I suspect she thinks I'm being bloody minded, so facts about it that i can give to the committee would be great. Or even your own thoughts and experiences

Just had notification from our LA we are getting an increase in funding as of the Summer Term!!!! Can't believe it, but very pleased, of course. The amount varies based on deprivation, post code etc., but at a quick look it seems as though it is going to be about 6p per child per hour - not quite the increase in minimum wage, but I am so happy to have it nevertheless.

I've started a campaign about the postcode lottery of funding for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in PVI settings, you can read more about it here: http://www.kathrynstinton.com/#!funding-campaign/c1u37 I contacted Nursery World and they want to run an article but would really like first hand accounts from providers about how difficult it can be to meet the needs of children due to lack of support and funding. If you can help, please contact me via my website, there's an option to remain anonymous. This is a real opportunity to raise the profile of this issue so please help if you can. Thanks so much!

Anyone that deals with admissions will know the type of phone call, email. that we get at this time of year. 'Jonny is 3 in February and I will increase his hours after Easter' And my response, of course is yes, what sessions would you like. But unfortunately, I haven't been able to keep open empty just so Jonny can have his extra hours. What do you do? Do the government really expect us to keep places open for them, losing £4 an hour or tell someone else they can't have a place now. Although I do feel sorry for them as its all the Autumn children that get all the preference and we do our best to accommodate all the existing children. What do othe…
