We had a parent enquiring about a space recently - the child was already at another local setting for a couple afternoons a week - child was a funded 3 yr old and the parent wanted to move as, although funded, they were still having to pay on top of that for his place...which she said was "quite expensive"..so not just little extras. Now I thought settings were not allowed to charge any top ups for children accessing only the funded hours or to expect parents to access any paid extras like meals / additional hours as a condition of having a place... it appears to me that something is not right here - but am I missing something?

I'm after some advice. We are a nursery within an independent school and we accept funding for places. Our Governors want to change the policy to insist that all 3-4 year olds attend nursery for a minimum of 20 hours per week. We're a bit surprised by this as we were under the impression that, as we accept funding, we're obliged to provide nursery places for only 15 hours per week to enable children from all backgrounds to attend without parents having to pay any extra fees. I can't find any information on our LA website or by trawling through google - does anybody know how we stand?

I was wondering how many settings offer funded 3 year olds, or even 2 year old funded children a staggered start? I know schools do this with reception children, due to the large September intake, but I am getting different information from my LEA. Our existing children always come back for the first day of term, but during that first week home visits take place for new starters. Then new starters begin during the following week from Monday onwards. The business department told us this was fine, but advisers at the LEA have said 570 hours is 570 hours so if we don't open to new starters in the first week we are not giving the full 38 weeks entitlement. I know chil…

Can I ask, do you get parents to fill out a funding form (even if the info is the same) each term or just once when they become funded? & then an amendment to hours form if the hours claimed changes? I am only getting parents to complete once their child is eligible and then use the same form each term. We are having are forms inspected soon, so want to make sure this is correct! Thank you

Hi The last day of term is a wed. So if a child normally has 12 hrs (not used anywhere else but a choice) funding per week does that mean for that week they are only entitled to 7.2 hours ie pro-rata? They normally come to us tues, wed, thurs for 4 hrs each so that would mean for that week I would have to charge them for 0.8 of an hour??? Not sure this is right...still trying to get my head around this funding! Trying to get to grips with my own spreadsheet. Have worked out that there are 7.4 weeks worth of funding for this half term (taking off an inset day and adding on the 3 extra days) but then when I use this to calculate the NEF it doesnt like it due to the fact…

We have recently taken on Instant Nursery Manager and I am in the process of invoicing on it for next term, which is a 5 week term. I have to put in the funding hours claimed for a child for each day, rather then a blanket amount for the week, as I did when manually billing. I have a child who is at two settings and comes to our setting on a Monday 9-3 and a Thursday 9-12, so 9 hours per week. The child claims 3 hours with us each week. The next term has 2 bank holidays (on a Monday) and we are closed for a polling day on a Thursday, so I can either show the 3 hours funding claimed on a Monday or a Thursday. If I claim the hours on a Thursday, the invoice works out …

Does funding for a child stop after they've received three funding blocks? My child turned three in Jan 2013 and started accessing funding in April 13, she turned four this Jan and my child's setting has told me that she's had all of her entitlement and she will not be entitled to any more. She won't start in a reception class until September. Is this right? I've contacted my LA but they didn't answer my question. I'm a reception teacher and have been oblivious to funding until now, knew it was out there, but had no first hand experience. I'm more concerned that if the funding stops after three terms, the area where I teach there would be a lot of families w…

Has anyone received there hourly rates yet, ours remain the same as this year, £3.82 for 3/4 year olds. £5.00 for 2 year olds. Thought we might have seen a slight increase given the minimum wage went up by 11p again this year, but I suppose it could have been worse and gone down.

We have always had a policy stating that if children take all of their funding at another setting then we charge them the funded rate - the reason being that we miss out on money as the funded rate is higher than our fee. Does anyone know if this is ok? We charge £3 per hour and the funded rate is £3.60. We don't very often have to implement this but will have to after Easter for a child who attends 6 hours with us so his fees will go up by £3.60 a day......

Hi we have just received our contract for funding for the next year. It states the Autumn term is 15 weeks in total, being a eight and a seven weeks. Have never had a eight week term before, would this be right. Any thoughts
